Introduction
For the past twent1 1ears, I have used the method of the la1ing on of hands to minister to those in the Bod1 of 0hrist who were :eing oppressed :1 sic/ness and disease) .his method is one that 'esus commissioned the 0hurch to use in the si+teenth chapter of the 8ospel of (ar/, verses fifteen through eighteen) (an1 have testified that the1?ve actuall1 felt the healing power of 8od go into their :odies) 6et 1ou spea/ to some of the ver1 same people three months later, and most of them are still ver1 much :ound :1 the same sic/ness and disease) .here didn?t seem to :e an1 effects from the healing power that was administered to them through the la1ing on of hands) 3s I searched the <ord for answers, I discovered that there was one main reason wh1 the1 were not :eing affected :1 the healing power that had :een administered to their :odies) .he reason was clear; It was the result of a lac/ of /nowledge) 3s I continued to stud1, I discovered that there were two main areas that the sic/ lac/ed /nowledge in) .he first area is the lac/ of /nowledge that when hands are laid on them, the healing power of 8od is at that moment administered to their :odies) .his /nowledge alone will ma/e :eing pra1ed for in a pra1er line so much more valua:le and precious) .he second area is the lac/ of /nowledge as to what to do with the healing power of 8od once it has :een o:tained) <e have :een giving people the healing power of 8od through the la1ing on of hands, :ut then we?ve :een guilt1 of not instructing them as to what the1 are to do with it once the1 have o:tained it)

3 lac/ of /nowledge in this area is one reason wh1 people have mishandled and mistreated the healing power of 8od) .herefore, once we are ministered to :1 the la1ing on of hands, we must understand that there are laws that govern the healing power of 8od) Understanding these laws and cooperating with them will :ring a:out the healing of our :odies that we have so longed for) Failure to understand and cooperate with these laws will cause us to remain as we areB:ound :1 sic/ness) Columes of :oo/s have :een written a:out faith and the role it must :e allowed to pla1 in our lives, not onl1 to o:tain healing, :ut also to live and wal/ :1 faith) 3s /nowledge has increased, our confidence in and cooperation with faith has increased and has :een strengthened) Similarl1, this :oo/ is dedicated to :ringing an understanding of the healing power of God) .he more we understand this power, the :etter equipped we are to have confidence in it and the :etter a:le we are to cooperate with it) .he laws that 1ou will :e reading a:out in the chapters ahead will spea/ not onl1 of how to o:tain the healing power of 8od, :ut also what to do with it once it has :een o:tained) I encourage 1ou to read all the scripture references carefull1, even though the1 ma1 :e ver1 familiar verses) It is m1 pra1er that as the e1es of 1our understanding :ecome enlightened concerning the healing power of 8od, 1ou will :egin to cooperate with that power until 1our :od1 is set totall1 free from the intimidating control of sic/ness or disease)

.his stor1 has :een a favorite of mine for 1ears) I have marveled at the determination of these men in verses 1= and 19, who tried ever1 possi:le means of entering into this room where 'esus was) 0an 1ou imagine how the1 must have felt when the1 were not allowed into the room due to the crowdA (ost people would have stopped there, turned around, and gone home) But it is ver1 apparent that these men /new that help for their friend was in that room5 .he1 /new this 1o/e of pals1 would :e destro1ed if onl1 the1 could get their friend to 'esus) Suddenl1, one of the men has an unconventional idea; F9et?s clim: up onto the roof, cut a hole in the roof, and lower him into the midst :efore 'esus5F 3greeing with the idea, the men maneuver their friend onto the roof and :egin their tas/ of getting him to 'esus) .he first sign of their presence to those alread1 in the room must have :een the dust that :egan floating down from the ceiling) .hen little pieces of the ceiling must have :egun to fall on those :elow) Finall1, a little :igger piece comes crashing down5 3ll e1es at this time are loo/ing upward) .he determined men continue to wor/) ow larger pieces are :eing ta/en off the roof until the men create a hole large enough to lower through it a man l1ing on a couch5 3s the1 lowered their dear friend through the hole, the1 must have :een quite a sight) 0overed with dirt and dust from the roof, all of them wor/ing together lowered him down to 'esus)

.he .eam .hat 0onquers Sic/ness5

Cerse -! tells us of 'esus? reaction to this ver1 unusual sight) It sa1s, F3nd when he saw their faith, he said unto him, (an, th1 sins are forgiven thee)F For 1ears I have :een so captivated :1 the statement FAnd when he saw their faith. . .F that it was the onl1 thing I?d mention from this stor1) I had come to the conclusion that the onl1 thing involved with this man?s healing was their faith) But after reading this account a little more closel1, I discovered that there were two things present which wor/ed together to free this man from his disease) 9u/e informs us in verse -! that not onl1 was faith present, :ut in verse 17, he mentions something else that was present; F. . and the PO !" O# $H! %O"& was present to heal them.F

The Unbeatable Team

<hat was this power that was presentA It must have :een healing power due to the fact that it healed the man5 .herefore, we must come to the conclusion that this man?s healing was the result of two things wor/ing togetherBfaith and the healing power of God5 .his com:ination /nows no failure) .here is not a sic/ness /nown to man that can remain dominant in a person when faith and the healing power of 8od team up and wor/ together5 Faith and 8od?s healing power wor/ed together to free this man from his disease) .hen wh1 had I spent so much of m1 time and effort defining and e+plaining the FfaithF side while hardl1 mentioning the FpowerF sideA If faith and power must wor/

together as a team, we must understand as much a:out the power side as we do a:out the faith side) Please do not misunderstand me) <e must :e taught a:out the faith side) 7owever, if faith and power are a team, then we must /now a:out each team mem:er equall1) <e should not :e elevating one a:ove the other) If faith were the onl1 thing responsi:le for the man?s healing in 9u/e $, there would have :een no need to let him down through the roof) .hose men had faith long :efore the1 lowered him into the midst :efore 'esus) So faith alone did not get this man healedG neither did the power alone get this man healed) It was the two wor/ing together) <hen o(r faith teams up with His power, recover1 from sic/ness and disease :egins5 .his is the team that conquers sic/nessBfaith and the healing power of 8od5 If we thin/ a:out this account in 9u/e $ for a moment, something ver1 interesting :egins to surface) .here was onl1 one thing in those men?s lives that /ept their faith from teaming up with the healing power of 8od, and that was the roof) If the team of faith and power was to unite and wor/ together, the roof had to go5 <e see clearl1 that those men did not let a little roof stand :etween them and the healing power of 8od) It too/ a little time and effort, :ut the o:stacle was removed) .he team of faith and power was then united, and the sic/ness was conquered5 I wonder if we have an1thing standing :etween o(r faith and His powerA I :elieve most of us do, and it must :e identified and Hripped apartI if we e+pect to :e free from sic/ness in our :od1)

9aw um:er Four;.here 3re .wo <a1s the Power of the 9ord Is (ade Present .o 7eal $7 of power) Plant them, water them, and 1ou will release the power within those seeds) .his released power is strong enough to push upward a fragile :lade through two to five inches of soil and produce enough roots so that within two 1ears, even a grown man would have difficult1 pulling it out of the ground5 4emem:er, as 'esus uses the seed to illustrate the <ord, 7e is actuall1 teaching us the characteristics of 7is <ord) 7e is ta/ing something we are ver1 familiar withBseedBto teach us a:out something we have difficult1 understandingBthe <ord) ow 1ou understand that the power within a seed in the natural must :e released through the method of planting and watering) .he power within the <ord must :e released through the method of obedience) o planting and no watering mean no results from the seed) 9i/ewise, no o:edience means no results from the <ord) 7e:rews %;1- sa1s, F#or the word of God is C(ic.1 and powerf(l1 and sharper than an, twoDedged sword1 piercing e0en to the di0iding as(nder of so(l and spirit1 and of the >oints and marrow1 and is a discerner of the tho(ghts and intents of the heart.F *ne translation sa1s, FFor the word of 8od is living and powerfulF 3nother translations sa1s, FFor the word of 8od is full of life and power)F 3nd another sa1s, FFor whatever 8od sa1s to us is full of living power)F &o we reall1 grasp the significance of this truthA If we reall1 understood that 8od?s <ord is full of life and power, we would no longer treat it with such disrespect) <e would place a new

and higher value on the <ord) Ouestioning it would :e a thing of the past) 7earing the <ord and not doing it would :e something we onl1 used to do) .he <ord of 8od is full of power, :ut the power is onl1 released through o:edience) 3s one translation of 7e:rews %;1- said, FFor whatever 8od sa1s to us is full of living power,F we understand that power alwa1s accompanies the <ord5 For e+ample, an1time we read or hear passages in the <ord instructing us as to how we are to conduct ourselves as parents, power to raise :ehaved and happ1 children is delivered unto us) *:edience to those passages will release the power within them, and we will see our home life change as a result) .he moment we read or hear passages instructing hus:ands and wives as to how to conduct ourselves with each other, power to have a happ1 marriage is made availa:le to us) 6et instead of releasing the power of those verses through o:edience, we spend all of our time screaming at the devil, re:u/ing him, and commanding him to leave our home) 7app1 homes are not the result of screaming at the devil :ut, rather, of the power that is released through our o:edience to the <ord) If we will listen and o:e1, the truth will set us free5 I am still tal/ing a:out one wa1 that the healing power is made present or availa:le to us; b, hearing or reading the ord concerning healing/ So if 1our pastor is teaching or preaching a:out healing, 1ou can :e confident that the power to heal is present in 1our church) If people are not :eing healed, instead of :laming it on the a:sence of power, 1ou might need to change

9aw um:er Four;.here 3re .wo <a1s the Power of the 9ord Is (ade Present .o 7eal $9 1our thoughts to the a:sence of obedience) *:edience to the <ord releases the power within the <ord5 .he power of 8od alwa1s accompanies the <ord of 8od) 3s I said, we can read the <ord or hear the <ord concerning healing and automaticall1 have the healing power present and availa:le to us) 3nd as illustrated in the ministr1 of 'esus, the healing power accompanies the <ord of 8od when the <ord on healing is taught) In 9u/e $;17 we see a ver1 interesting revelation concerning the power accompan1ing the <ord) Cerse 17 sa1s, FAnd it came to pass on a certain da,1 as he D'esusE was teaching1 that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting b,1 which were come o(t of e0er, town of Galilee1 and J(daea1 and Jer(salem9 and the power of the %ord was present to heal them.F otice 'esus was teaching, and 9u/e tells us that H. . . the power of the %ord was present to heal them.I .he power accompanies the <ord) <hat I find interesting in this passage is that the power of the 9ord was present to heal, and 'esus wasn?t even preaching5 7e wasn?t screaming, 7e wasn?t running around the room5 7e wasn?t Lumping over an1 pews5 .he Bi:le tells us that 7e was was simpl1 teaching) .oo man1 have the idea that the power of the 9ord is onl1 present when the1 are e+periencing a certain t1pe of service) Some thin/ that the power is onl1 present when the1 are in a high"energ1, preaching t1pe of service) But 'esus reveals to us through this event in 9u/e $ that the power can :e present even in a teaching session5 <e must understand that power alwa1s

accompanies the <ord of 8od, not a particular t1pe of service) So the primar1 wa1 that the power to heal is made present is through the <ord) <hether 1ou?re hearing a:out healing taught in a church service or through a cassette or on .C, the power to heal is made present through the ord) 6ou can even cause the power to :ecome present to heal :1 reading healing scriptures in the privac1 of 1our own home) <h1A Because whenever the <ord concerning healing is proclaimed or read a:out from the <ord of 8od, power accompanies it ever1 time) .he powerBhealing powerBalwa1s accompanies the <ord5 ow remem:er in the previous chapter, I stated that in order for a person to :enefit from the power that is present, he or she must belie0e it is present) .herefore, we need to as/ ourselves, F&o we :elieve that the power to heal is present when the su:Lect of healing is taught or read a:out from the <ord of 8odA *r are we still waiting for our favorite minister to come to town :efore we will :elieve that the power is presentA &o we belie0e that power accompanies the promises in the <ordAF

Before I mention the second method :1 which the healing power of the 9ord :ecomes present, I would li/e to add one more thought) .his additional thought comes from 9u/e $;17"-#) <e must understand that it does not ta/e ever1one in the room to :e in Fone accordF to get the power present to heal) 9u/e $;17 sa1s, FAnd it came to pass on a certain da,1 as he was teaching1 that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law
