Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000 Chicago, IL 60606-6995 Dear Nominations Committee, It is my pleasure to enthusiastically nominate Ms. Amanda Nieh as the ACEND Student Representative. Amanda is a Junior at the University of California (UC) Davis, majoring in Clinical Nutrition. She will be graduating in June of 2014 and plans to apply to a Dietetic Internship during her senior year, to enter the program following graduation. I know Amanda in my role as DPD Director and Department Chair and feel that she will effectively fulfill all the requirements of the two-year position and that she exceeds the stated qualifications. Amanda is an accomplished young woman who actively seeks opportunities to gain experience in the field of dietetics to apply her didactic knowledge and who has already been involved in four internships (volunteer and paid), as well as having worked in restaurant and food service establishments. She is a good student in our competitive academic environment and is able to balance multiple demands on her time. Thus, I feel that she will be able to manage the necessary time and responsibilities of the ACEND board position, yet maintain her academic standards. Leadership and communication skills are two particular strengths that Amanda will bring to the ACEND position. She was involved in school leadership positions during secondary education and since being at UC Davis she has held positions as an officer in the Student Nutrition Association and a campus sports club. Amanda is continuing to develop her skills through her current paid internship. For the past six months, she has held a unique position as a corporate nutrition intern with Apple, Inc. She will be able to bring a perspective to ACEND as a strong student leader who has a broad and varied experience. She carries herself professionally, is respectful but appropriately assertive and will not hesitate to provide a voice for students in the field, offer her opinions, and devote her energies to gaining the most out of the opportunity to serve on the ACEND Board. In summary, Amanda Nieh is a future leader in the dietetics field who is an exceptional candidate for the Student Representative position on the ACEND Board. She is excited about the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Board, learn of its role in the profession and to represent the student viewpoint. She is a self-motivated, dependable, hard-working and personable young woman. Amanda is just the type of young leader that the profession should cultivate and I am happy to give her my strong recommendation. Sincerely yours,
