Welcome to seventh grade Civics! I look forward to a great school year filled with exciting learning opportunities. This letter is to provide both the student and parent with some general information about how to succeed in this social studies course. Course &b'ectives( In this course, students will learn the roles, rights, and responsibilities of !nited "tates citi#ens the principles, functions, and organi#ation of government the origins of the $merican political system methods of active participation in our political systems. Civics End#of#Course E)am( "tudents are re%uired to complete a standardi#ed state end&of&course '()C* exam in Civics. This will be a comprehensive computer&based exam. This exam will count for %"* of the student+s final ,rade. The test will include +,&-. multiple choice items consisting of low, moderate, and high level %uestions. The test is based on the /ext 0eneration "unshine "tate "tandards in Civics. 1or more information, please see the Civics ()C test item specifications available on the 123)( website.

Gradin, -olicy(

Throughout the school year, students will receive grades based on formative and summative assessments. 1ormative assessments include daily class work which allows for practice of new skills and concepts, and timely feedback from the teacher.
