Panel Discussion 1) Explain Panel Discussion has 3 main parts: a) Panelist: that is a small group of people who are

keynote speakers like (therapist, psychologists, doctorsetc.) who are knowledgeable in the specific area of concern, controversial topic. (Discussion is not rehearsed) b) Audience: Is the people in the council meeting, classroom that can voice opinions, concerns or questions c) Moderator: Is a person who initiates the discussion, facilitates the questions, and summarizes key points 2. Explain simple / complex panel discussion. a) Simple Panel Discussion: Article- Panel Discussion: Creating A Spirit Of Inquiry In the Classroom This panel was hosted in a community-nursing classroom. This was used where a panel of experts for example veteran nurses, and people in the specialized area sit on a panel. Nurses asked questions pertaining to the hospital environment, client care, policies and roles & responsibilities as a new nurse going into the profession. Strategy was used for students to ask questions, acquire knowledge and hear different view points from professionals who work in the field presently

3. Complex Panel Discussion: Article- Encouraging Critical thinking Through Expert Panel Discussion This panel was done in a university by a computer/technology professor. (The class was a 12 week condensed course. Lots of academic material & multiple personalities that were influential in the evolution of technology, programs & artificial intelligence) The professor made information packages of each personality and let students pick the personality. Students had to research person, read books and find out as much info on the person. (Students ended up talking, role playing their person) Prof also presented a controversial statements like: some people believe computers will eventually surpass human intelligence others do not believe that. Then last day of class each panel would lead discussion on the personality they chose and the on the issue This strategy provoked controversy within a classroom, personal involvement, strengthened the over all course, created awareness of issues surrounding technology, students became familiar with important names, positive experience, creates engaging interesting classrooms, view points & different perspectives. Benefit of Panel Discussions Promotes critical thinking Opportunities for students to learn another perspective Creates teamwork and interaction within a classroom (gives everyone opportunity to talk) Creates discovery of a topic
