Stratification involves placing groups in layers within a social hierarchy based on factors like wealth, social class, ethnicity, gender, religion, and political status. It can create a sense of inequality but also establishes concepts of ideology and power within a society. While stratification may involve hierarchy and inequality, it is necessary to maintain social order, distribute occupations, and provide equal opportunities for advancement.
