IDENTIFY CONCERNS
Violence seems to be everywhere for American youth. Todays students are no strangers violence but many feel powerless to do anything about it. I want to empower youth with attitudes, skills and resources to recognize, report and reduce youth violence. Youth violence is a big issue. Seventyseven percent of United States students are bullied. Fourteen percent said they have experienced a severe reaction to bullying.

SET A GOAL
My goal is to educate youth about the types of bullying, and indicate ways to stop it in their schools and communities. By informing people about bullying, another goal of mine is to create a caring and respectful environment in the family, school, workplace, and community.

FORM A PLAN
Who: Jessica Eurek What: To educate youth about bullying and indicate ways to stop it in their schools and communities Where: Various classrooms When: January 2014 to present How: Research the types of bullying and give suggestions of ways to implement changes in behaviors in grades 6th through 10th Cost: Time to research, write a speech, and design a virtual poster presentation to present to all students in grades 5th -10th, and there was no expense as the website I used was free Human Resources: FCCLA Adviser/FCS Educator, All 5th through 12th grade students and teachers, school administrators, and technology coordinator Non-Human Resources: 2014 National FCCLA and Prezi Websites, 2001 Stop the Violence CD, and various websites related to the issue of bullying Evaluation: After presenting my poster presentation to 5th 12th grade student body, I will have a pre and post survey to help me evaluate my STAR project.

ACT I researched the information on the different types of bullying that occur and identified ways to stop bullying. I wrote my speech, made a virtual poster presentation, and practiced it several times until I felt comfortable to video tape. I will present to all students and teachers in grades 5th through 12th. FOLLOW UP After completing my research and reviewing the surveys that the 4th through 12th grade students completed about bullying, it indicated that bullying was a concern. Students indicated that they needed more education and motivational speakers to educate them about bullying. I decided to continue this issue by presenting my information into a virtual poster presentation. A thank you to my FCCLA Adviser to encourage me to complete this STAR project and technology coordinator to assist with finding an interactive poster website.

Evidence of Online Project Summary

Project Summary Purpose of the project: Did you know that 77% of United States students are bullied mentally, verbally, and physically? Through research, I found that of those 77%, fourteen percent said they had experienced severe reactions to bullying. What does youth violence look like in my school and community? What efforts are already in place to recognize, reduce, and prevent youth violence in my school and community? These are very important questions. They were a big part of helping me identify my concerns for STOP the Violence program. I needed a picture of the way things are now in order to envision what could be different in the future. The Loup City FCCLA Chapter has 30 members and we are from a small rural community with a population of 1,029. The student survey analysis showed verbal abuse, bullying, and threats occurring during school hours. Between 5 to 20 violent incidents have occurred on the school grounds in the past 12 months. After reviewing completed surveys from students, administrator, and county representatives, I discovered youth violence actual numbers of incidents were higher than we first thought and are similar to national program concerns. Youth violence is a big issue.

Goals: My goals are: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. To explain what bullying is. Who is most likely to be bullied and who is likely to be a bully. What to do in bullying situations. Why youth dont ask for help. How FCCLA can help with this problem.

FACS and/or Career Relationship: My project promotes our FCCLA mission statement and all eight FCCLA purposes as well as the National Family and Consumer Sciences Standards. The standard is 13.0 Interpersonal Relationships. By informing youth about bullying, my goal is to create a caring and respectful environment in the family, school, workplace, and community. By completing this project, I discovered two career pathways; Arts, A/V Technology and Communications career cluster, I learned to design, produce, exhibit, perform, write, and publish multimedia content that includes visual, performing arts, design, journalism, and entertainment services. In the other career pathway, Human Services, I learned that through this project I assisted individuals prepare for employment that relates to family and human needs.
