G RA D E 3 COMEAU

Language Arts
February is poetry month and we will be reading various poems! We are going to continue to focus on narrative writing. The students are learning that a narrative piece has a problem and some events that take place followed by a solution to the problem near the end of the story. Ask your child about the story they are creating. We have also been working with Similes using like or as and verbs. Students are getting a lot of practice making sentences with Quotation marks to prepare for their narrative story. Caf strategies continue to be developed to help your childs reading skills. This month we are focusing on mastering flip the sound. This is where your child will try different sounds of a until they hear a word that makes sense. This strategy works very well with vowel sounds.

We have now covered the first three habits, Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, and Put First Things First. Our fourth Habit is Think Win-Win. This Habit is going to teach us all about getting out of the mindset of a win-lose situation. When we are presented with a situation, instead of looking at it with the notion that somebody has to lose, look at it and figure out a way that we can make it work so that both parties win.
