Taking AMIT Schools into the 21st Century

Building Israel One Child at a Time!

21st Century Schools and Fielding Nair International A complete package

While there are many consultants and programs claiming to be 21st century, the philosophy and approach of 21st Century Schools and Fielding Nair International are unique.

In the case of AMIT, we must ensure that everything we design and implement, from the building and grounds to the curriculum and instruction, are derived from, and always aligned to, AMIT's Mission of instilling Jewish values through a Jewish education while meeting the needs of their 21st century students.

How is 21st Century Schools unique? For 21st Century Schools this is best illustrated by the two compass roses I created several years ago -Critical Attributes of 21st Century Education, and Multiple Literacies for the 21st Century. We began urging educators to integrate these attributes and literacies in 1995. Only very recently have some organizations/consultants begun to recognize and recommend a few of these literacies.

Additional we have adopted Tony Wagner's "7 Survival Skills for the 21st Century". Compass Roses and 7 Survival Skills

We are also the only consultants who teach educators that all of these items - the Critical Attributes, the Multiple Literacies, the 7 Survival Skills, as well as all the content knowledge, basic skills, values and habits of mind must all be embedded in an intentionally designed Learning Environment.

This Learning Environment is much more than academic - we must intentionally design the physical environment and the social/emotional environment as well as the academic environment. And this is why we turn to Fielding Nair International.

Why Fielding Nair International?

Fielding Nair International is the global leader for educational facilities planning and architectural design. FNI plans and designs school facilities for today and tomorrow with one primary goal in mind to improve learning!

Exploring 21st Century Schools web sites

I invite you to explore our web sites, including the new 21st Century Schools International. It is currently under development, and many of our plans and ideas are not yet on the web site, but will be soon. This web site will provide you with insight to our educational philosophy and methodologies.

There are three main sections to this site: a developing Coalition of 21st Century Schools (the criteria is under development and will be online by mid-February), an International Teacher Education Initiative and our global, collaborative classrooms project - Food and Culture.

Under the Teacher Education Initiative you will find a recommended Program Development which will then be modified and custom developed for each country, state and/or organization wishing to implement such a program. We do not require any of these programs, but recommend them.

Also under the Teacher Education Initiative are listed various regions and nations for whom we are developing custom proposals. You will see Israel listed here, and there is a page for AMIT. So far we have not added any content other than this document but this is where we will be adding the proposal for the AMIT project.

These pages are password protected. You may access them with this password: 21CSI (it is case sensitive).

Also, you may wish to continue to explore our main web site where you can view our Brochure; Two more workshops will be added, Thinking Tools and MOVE IT, Math! Both are excellent

tools for teachers to implement in the classroom. I used MOVE IT, Math! myself in the first, fourth and fifth grade classrooms. Read about that here.

You received two documents via email - information About Anne Shaw, and our very prestigious Advisory Board. How do we take AMIT schools into the 21st century? See next document.
