Half-Court Speedball
Teams: 3 players per team (4 teams per court)(2 courts needed) Teams are selected by the teacher based on the students skills. Facilities: A full-length basketball court with 2 basketball hoops (94 ft long, 50 ft wide, halfcourt at 47 ft) Equipment needed: 4 team handball balls, 4 basketball hoops, 4 floor hockey nets, 6 pennies(for 2 teams) Outcomes: For students to practice and understand the rules of Speedball. For students to become comfortable with the rules in a small sided, game-like situation. SPOs
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(P) Successfully score points utilizing all three ways with 80% accuracy. (NASPE #1; MA
CF 2.17) (C) Identify all of the rules and scoring methods for Half-Court Speedball with 100% accuracy. (NASPE #2; MA CF 2.17) (A) Respect the teacher, all other students, and equipment and participate safely throughout the entire lesson. (NASPE #5; MA CF 2.26) Positions: Since this is a 3v3 half court game players will be rapidly switching between offense and defense. There are no set positions for this game(ex. forward/defender/goalie) Rules and Regulations: Only 1 step can be taken with the ball. At least 1 pass must be completed before you can attempt to score. If the ball is on the ground, soccer rules apply BUT the ball can be flipped up to a teammate just not self. While the ball is in the air, team handball rules apply. Kicking into the net = 1 point Throwing into the net = 1 point Shooting into the hoop = 2 points There is no out of bounds. After a score, the non-scoring team will get the ball at half court. The pennie team will start with the ball. No shots can be taken inside the designated scoring area. If a turnover occurs, the ball must be cleared past the 3-point line then game play continues. Cannot hold the ball for more than 5 seconds. Safety Tips: Students are not allowed to trip, charge, or block one another.

No one is allowed to go past the designated scoring line. Extensions: Down: To make the game easier students would be able to take 3 or 4 steps with the ball. Up: To make the game harder students would need to complete more passes before attempting to score. Diagram:
