Criteria for a One to One Paraprofessional within a Level IV EBD Setting

A student is eligible for a one to one paraprofessional when: a student is eligible for special education; the service is described on the IEP/Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)/Individual Interagency Intervention Plan (IIIP) and is necessary for the student to benefit from special education; the parent/legal representative has been notified/informed and consents/ releases have been obtained; The IEP/IFSP/IIIP Team may determine the need for a one to one paraprofessional when: a student demonstrates need for assistance with daily living skills; a student demonstrates need for assistance with health related functions; a student demonstrates need for assistance with observation and intervention for behavior for behavior that has potential for self-injury, injury to others, or destruction of property. The team may consider the use of a one to one paraprofessional after: the student has a current evaluation and functional behavioral assessment; documented behavior data support the need for a more restrictive setting; the student has 2 or more documented restrictive procedures; documentation that the student safety requires a higher level of supervision.
