Artifact: Improvement Project for TE 894 Fall 2012 Goals: 2 Standards: 2,3,4,5 Times and times again, I ask

myself, what makes a good teaching, especially for me, a K-12 Chinese teacher in America? I have taught for 3 years in America already, I have so many standards for good teaching, and this assignment from TE 807 provided me this chance to list some extremely important standards of good teaching. TE 807 is a really fun class to take, the reading texts are fun but profound. I am very motivated to be a student, but in TE 807, I feel that I have never been so much motivated and excited to learn. As you see from the artifact, I stated three essential factors that make you a good teaching: being a good lead to students, clearly know the standards and the objectives first, then carefully design your teaching, meanwhile deliver your goals and standards to students, make your teaching and curriculum align to standards (standard 2,3,4, goal 2). Secondly I mentioned that as a teacher, you have to be a good model to your students, students will not remember what you say, but they will memorize what you do, so as a teacher, you would have to model positive behavior and attitude, therefore you can expect as students get along with you, they will pick up your personality, because students do what adults do (standard 5). Thirdly, I also wrote that its truly critical for you to balance your content, especially for Chinese teachers, to make sure you success, you have to know the expectations from school, the students needs, and you use multiple strategies and both curricular and extracurricular activities to balance your class (standards 2,3, goal 1). I always try to be a good model at school, I pick up any trash on the hallway or on the floor in my classroom, I keep my desk and my documents organized, I put all my personal items that are not related to teaching away so students cant see it, and I as a teacher always use my calm, consistent teacher s voice. Its just like magic, you cant imagine that even with a not very group of students, my classroom and the front of my classroom door is always clean, almost all my students are having their planners and binders with them which they will not usually do in other classes, students have few cell phone issues in my classroom, and finally, students are very calm and respectful. Now looking at my paper, the only thing I regret is that I could write way more standards to make my paper better. Its just not enough for good teaching, and its always not enough. Because of the society will not stop going up, we teachers always need to learn to better educate our students.
