Liberal Studies Expected Student Outcomes Division I: Foundations of Communication From EN111 and EN211 I have learned how

to efficiently write a paper using the right grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. I had to write many papers for each of those classes to prove that I could come up with a topic and be able to write about it for several pages with references and have it all be organized and make sense. Division II: Foundations of Humanities In my NAS 204 class I learned about the Native American culture of the Great Lakes and big historic moments in Native American times. I learned about how they had to deal with prejudice and racism toward their culture for 100s of years and still do to this day. I remember talking about the Wounded Knee massacre and what a tragedy it was. Back in the 70s they had a riot back by the Wounded Knee graves. I felt I learned a lot of information that they tend to keep out of the textbooks. In my PL 180 class we had many discussions in class about different ethical situations and would have to lead discussions at times on ethical behavior. Division III: Foundations of Natural Science and Mathematics In my ENV101 class I have taken away the concepts of earth hazards and what I and others can do to help achieve a greener world. These concepts I still use today through my life style and through my minor. I have stopped drinking out of the store bought plastic bottles and instead use a Nalgene. I try to walk or bike everywhere as much as I can. I try to conserve my water and energy I use. These not only help the environment but also my bills. My CH109 class I learned a lot about the scientific methods of chemistry and how it applies to everyday life. The lab to the chemistry class also helped me understand better with hands on experience. Division IV: Foundations of Social Science In my PY 100 and SO 101 class I have learned the interesting concepts of the social structure in society. It opened my eyes to a new view of the world from a societal science point of view and intrigued me. I also learned from psychology class how each part of the brain works and why some people have disorders due to certain parts of the brain.

Division V: Formal Communications Studies In my SN 101 class I learned the basic Spanish communication skills. I have since used these skills while I was in Costa Rica which came in handy. Division VI: Foundations of Visual and Performing Arts In my MU 125 class I learned all about the different styles of music from early music to music today. I enjoyed this class since I had never taken a music class and the professor made it real fun and interesting. I learned a lot about music that I never knew before and would say I have a much better appreciation for it than I ever did before this class. My favorite was learning about the orchestra bands and their powerful music.
