What is the price of freedom?

India got its freedom on the fifteenth of August, 1947. While celebrating Independence Day every year on this date, e forget that there are many ho are not able to en!oy the benefits of being a citi"en of an independent country. #ra$ash lives in the slums of Dharavi. %e is able to fill in some money in his allet by or$ing as a delivery boy in a supermar$et. With the meagre salary that he gets by or$ing busy all day, he is supposed to attend his ailing father, sic$ $ids. or$ing hard ife and t o

&heir condition is e'tremely pitiable. &hey do not have a proper roof overhead. &hey are protected from the sun and the rain by a thin plastic sheet. #ra$ash is hardly left ith much money after attending to the ever ( increasing e'penses of medication and education. %e spends many sleepless nights due to the pangs of starvation. #ra$ash is not the only person ho undergoes such adversity. &here are a million others ho undergo the same difficulties as #ra$ash. &hey cannot even thin$ of en!oying the freedom of the country even in their ildest dreams. Is this because their social and financial status prohibits them from doing so) Are not they eligible to en!oy the freedom that the freedom fighters of our country had given their lives for) What price shall they have to pay to achieve a scrap of the taste of freedom hich they are legally rightful to) *riti +hah 9A ,7
