7th Grade Science 2013 ELODEA AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS LAB REPORT FRONT COVER: Name, class, period and

date in top right hand corner. Title of project centered. PROBLEM: Be precise; say exactly what you are investigating stated as a question. HYPOTHESIS: One sentence The hypothesis must always be an if/then statement. Example: If you increase the distance of light, then the rate of photosynthesis will decrease. However, for a higher grade it is always better to make your hypothesis QUANTITATIVE (using numbers). Example: If you double the distance of light, then the rate of photosynthesis will decrease by 50%. There must be scientific reasoning behind your hypothesis. This is called a THEORY. THEORY/BACKGROUND INFORMATION: One paragraph You must carry out secondary research to back up the statement made in your hypothesis. Use the textbook, search the net, experiment and ask questions to uncover the science. The following should guide your research: How does your research and background information lead you to your hypothesis? How did the data from the practice lab lead you to your hypothesis? How did looking at 2012 data lead you to your hypothesis?

PROCEDURE: This is a step-by-step recipe on how you conducted your experiment. DATA/OBSERVATIONS: This is how to display your data: a) data table of trials with columns and rows properly labeled. b) data table of your groups averages for all trials. c) any shared data from many samples. c) computer graphs, titled and labeled.

CONCLUSION: One paragraph You must use your data to answer the question stated in the problem. Be sure compare data. You may want to access data from other groups. Revisit your hypothesis. Do not repeat data, but summarize. Finally conclude based upon the results of your trials. The following may provide you with a basic structure: Begin with an introductory sentence by restating the problem. Summarize (quantitatively) and compare data. Calculate the % increase or decrease at different distances, colors or amount of CO2. Concluding sentence (revisits hypothesis). DO NOT REPEAT PROCEDURE IN CONCLUSION! EVALUATION/ANALYSIS: One Paragraph To guide your writing consider the following: BIBLIOGRAPHY: Be sure to cite your sources. See library web site for proper procedures. FINAL DRAFT: Type everything! Spell Check On time Bibliography 3 References Proper Lab Format as indicated in instructions All research notes and rough draft include Due________________ What were the discrepancies (inconsistencies) in the data (numbers) ? And, why were the results inconsistent? What would improve the reliability of the procedure?
