Ournationisataturningpoint,andwhileagrowingbipartisanmajorityofAmericansbelieve thateveryoneshouldbeabletomarrythepersontheylove,HRCPresidentChadGriffinsaidina statement(POLITICO).ThisshowsthatpeopleinAmericaarerethinkingandbelievinghomosexuals shouldbeequal.Gayrightsisthenewcontroversialtopicwhenitcomestoequality.Marriageisabasic humanrightforeveryindividual.ItshouldbelegalizedinmorestatesinUnitedStates. Samesexmarriageisacivilright.IntheDeclarationofIndependenceithadstatedthat,We holdthesetruthstobeselfevident,thatallmenarecreatedequal,thattheyareendowedbytheir Creatorwithcertainunalienablerights(GayrightsandConstitution).Thesewordswerewrittenalong timeago,andtheywantedpeopletounderstandthefactthatpeopleshouldbetreatedequally.Sinceit isstatedintheDeclarationofIndependencethatallmenarecreatedequally,theneachmanshouldbe abletomarrywhotheywouldlikewithoutgettingquestionedaboutit.Thediscriminationagainstsame sexmarriageismorallywrong.GaymarriageisprotectedbytheConstitution'scommitmentstoliberty andequality,(Procon).Thismeansthatgaymarriageisprotectedandpeopleshouldbefreetotheir ownmarriageopinions.Gaycitizenshaverightsjustlikeeverysinglestraightpersoninthecountry.A rightthateverypersonisentitledtoistherighttomarry.Therefore,intheUnitedStatesweshould enforcewhatsay,andalsotreatpeopleequally.

Overtheyears,peopleintheUnitedStatesarewarminguptohomosexuals.Thepercentageof Americanswhonowfavorallowinggaysandlesbianstomarrylegally,accordingtoaPewResearch CenterpollconductedinmidMarch.Fortyfourpercentareopposed,(POLITICO).Thismeansthat fiftysixpercentofpeoplewereforgaysandlesbianstomarrylegally.Thispercentageshouldstart raisingbecausemorepeoplearerealizingthatgaysandlesbiansarejustlikeeverybodyelse.Public supportforgaymarriagehasincreasedabout1%annuallyoverthelasttwodecades,(GayMarriage andStatistics).Thismayseemlikeasmallpercentage,butitshouldkeeprisingthroughouttheyears. Onepercenttodaycouldturnintoaboutfivepercentwithinthenextfewyears.Peoplearegettinga moreunderstandingviewforgayrights,andtheybelievethatpeopleshouldbeabletomarrytheperson thattheylove.At some point in our lifetime, gay marriage won't be an issue, and everyone
who stood against this civil right will look as outdated as George Wallace standing on the school steps keeping James Hood from entering the University of Alabama because he was black (George Clooney, Gay Marriage Facts).

Homosexualshavealotofpressurewhenitcomestosociety.Theyfeellikeoncetheycomeout theywillbediscriminatedbyeveryone.Denyingsamesexcouplestherighttomarrystigmatizesgay andlesbianfamiliesasinferiorandsendsthemessagethatitisacceptabletodiscriminateagainstthem (Procon).Peoplebackinthedayusetobediscriminatedbytheirgenderandthecoloroftheirskin.But today,peoplearenolongerabletobediscriminatedduetotheirrace.Somedaythiscanbetruefor gayandlesbianmarriagetoo.Increasedacceptanceofhomosexualityislikelytoleadtoareductionof discrimination(GayMarriageFactsandStatistics).Thelessdiscriminationthereis,thelessproblems therewouldbe.Ifpeopleaccepthomosexualitymore,thentherewillbemorepeaceforpeople.

Peopleontheopposingsidebelievethatmarriageisaprivilegeandnotaright.Marriagewas createdtoallowsocietytosupportheterosexualcouplesinprocreationandsocietycanchoosenotto givethesamebenefitstosamesexcouples(Procon).OnthecontraryThe14thAmendmentstates thats,nostateshallmakeorenforceanylawwhichshallabridgetheprivilegesorimmunitiesofcitizens oftheUnitedStatesnorshallanystatedepriveanypersonoflife,liberty,orproperty,withoutdue processoflawnordenytoanypersonwithinitsjurisdictiontheequalprotectionofthelaws(Gay RightsinTheConstitution).ThismeansthataslongasyouareacitizenoftheUnitedStates,thenyou maynotgetanyofyourrightstakenawayfromyou.Apersonmaynotbedeniedfromdoingsomething becauseallofusAmericanshaveequalrights.

Asyoucansee,marriageisarightthateverysinglepersonshouldhave.Samesexmarriageisa civilrightandaprivilege.Overtheyearssamesexmarriageisincreasing.Whatneedstobedoneis peopleneedtorealisethatmarriagedealswithloveandcommitment.Gayrightsisjustamatterof time.Lookatthepolls.Worryingaboutgaymarriage,letalonegaycivilunionsorgayemployment rights,isamiddleageissue.Youngpeoplejustcan'tseetheproblem.Atworst,gaysaregoingtowin thisonejustbywaitinguntiltheoppositiondiesoff,(Levy,Michael).
