Proposed Course Outline 2013-2014


Course Description Business Education 10 is divided into five different organizers: Business Communication, Finance, Economics, Marketing and Entrepreneurship. It is meant for providing students with background knowledge on a variety of areas within the field of business, allowing them to reach a higher level of performance in business literacy. Students develop effective communicative and numerical skills, learn about businesses and organizations within a global context, explore the world of entrepreneurial activity and marketing, and apply this knowledge and these skills within a business context. Course Objectives The course is intended to provide students with the opportunity to: select and justify appropriate business communication tools to complete a variety of tasks apply interpersonal and teamwork skills to generate solutions to business problems or challenges understand how economic systems are defined by and help shape the diversity of business understand the basics of budgeting and personal finance describe and evaluate the marketing mix for a variety of products create and implement a marketing plan for a product or service design, implement and evaluate a business plan assess personal attributes that relate to entrepreneurship in business Course Overview 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Students must bring their own: 1. Pens/pencils/erasers 2. Project materials 3. USB Flash drive (memory stick) recommended for backing up work. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS 1. Come to class on time. Students should arrive on time for class, ready to start work as soon as the bell has sounded. 2. Come to class prepared. Students are responsible to bring all materials to class. 3. Respect the learning environment. Listen to instructions, work quietly at your desk, raise your hand to ask or answer questions, work co-operatively, and respect other people. 4. Keep the classroom clean. Students should leave all food or beverages outside the classroom. 5. Minimize going to the washroom during class time. Try your best to use the washroom during your breaks. Ask the teacher for permission and sign out on the whiteboard near the door. Students who take advantage of this privilege, will no longer be allowed to leave the classroom. 6. Minimize absences. Inform the teacher in advance if you will be missing any classes. A note from home or doctor may be requested by your teacher to explain your absences from class. If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to catch up on all missed work. 7. Write all tests & quizzes. Tests will be announced in advance and cannot be missed without valid reason. If you are absent for a test/quiz, your mark for the test/quiz will be zero unless a note from your parent/guardian is provided. Upon your return to school, you should be prepared to write a make up test or to make arrangements with the teacher directly. 8. Use the computers for course work. Computers are to be used as a tool to aid student learning, e.g. note taking and research. Using the computers for any other activities unrelated to the course will result in computer privileges taken away.
