CHE 6010 HW # 3 Maruful Hasan Roll# 11 Title of the Presentation: PhD Thesis of Dr.

Cheng Zhu, Shape evolution of three-dimensional periodic structure fabricated by direct-write assembly of concentrated colloidal gels. Presenter: Dr. James E. Smay, Associate Professor, Oklahoma State University My Liking on the Contents of Presentation: 10 (on 0 to 10 scales) Summary of the Presentation: The presentation was about the shape evolution of fabricated structure by the assembly of concentrated colloidal gels. First the presenter told about the direct write process. Special kind of ink is designed for the 3-D structure. Ink rheology and flow behavior is very important in this process. He also pointed on the colloidal gel preparation which is used for fabrication. The shape evolution of 3D structures can be predicted by knowledge of the rheological behavior of the colloidal gel in shear loading. Rheological behavior can be related to the structural recovery time of the colloidal gel. Better control of shape evolution will lead to improvements in advanced applications such as photonic band gap structures, artificial bone structures, and metal-ceramic composites. What I Did Not Like: I think this topic deals with advance material science. So without adequate preparation it is really hard to understand the contents of the presentation. It would be better if I was given some background at the starting of the presentation. I think the time was short too.
