Drives and Motivation MOTIVE Something (need/ desire) that causes a person to act.

. MOTIVATION Refers to factors within an individual that activate, maintain and direct behavior toward a goal.

DRIVE- it is the psychological expression of internal needs or valued goals like hunger, thirst, or a drive of success. RESPONSE any action, glandular activity or other identifiable behavior. GOAL target or objective of motivated behavior.

2 kinds of Motivation Biological Drives INTRINSIC MOTIVATION- Motivation that comes from within, rather than from external rewards. It is based on personal enjoyment of a task or an activity EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION- Motivation based on obvious external rewards, obligations, or similar factors. It is the desire to perform an act to gain reward or to avoid undesirable consequence.
