January 17, 2013 K-12 Vertical Math Meeting

Present: Amy Oliver, Lori Smalldon, Michelle Holmes, Josh Modert, Bruce Esterline, Nicole Knight-Lucas, Andrea Weiss, Susan Kloster-Larkey, Jessica Hoekstra, Shannon TerMeer, Martha Roelofs, Heather Kortlandt and Melissa Koenig

Reviewed MEAP data and correlation study from Hope College indicators Delta Math vs. MEAP. Delta Math is a good review for MEAP in the fall.

Reviewed Google Doc on PLC questions for elementary/middle/high school. Bring to your PLC some student work (one at a low level, mid level and a high level) centered around problem solving/performance assessments.

Introduced Math Mapping project which included what the project will produce and what the process. Dates, times and location were agreed upon.

Reviewed math curriculum map. What adjustments need to be made? Lower el - include a section for materials, resources, pacing approximate times- 3 weeks - Amy suggested an index of resources (websites with a brief description of the website) as well as an inventory list (which building has what manipulatives), At a Glance - big picture cover page

Upper el - add a column of essential skills, liked the OMS version (this would serve as the overview), liked labelling of major, supplemental, additional, deadline for assessment for PLC data, give common district assessment at the end of each trimester

Secondary - add in timeline - approximation as to how long the unit should take, common assessments, cover sheet

Amy Oliver shared information from the University of Arizona. http://ime.math.arizona.edu/ which included learning trajectories and math progressions. Keep Depth of Knowledge in mind when creating maps as well. Smarter Balanced Assessment test make up will be: Claim 1 - 40% - Concepts and procedures Target a (m) = major Claim 2 - 20% of test Claim 3 - Communicating Reasoning - 20% Claim 4 - Modeling and Analyzing Data - 20%

www.smarterbalanced.org www.turnonccmath.net unpacked descriptors similar to the North Carolina site. It also shows what common errors are predicted for each grade level.

Quality Task of CCSS - Martha shared a rubric found for quality tasks

This information is on the EngageNY website. Major = 70% Additional = 20% Supporting = 10%

To Do: We need to add the grade level material before and after to the website for Delta Math Quick Checks.

What are you going to go back and share at your PLC: Answer questions from Google doc with your PL.C. Decide if you are going to answer all of the questions at once? Pose a question at a time? We need to work through all of these questions by the end of the school year.

Make sure everyone has CCSS Domain progression - some may already have this

3rd-5th mapped out fraction unit and look for performance tasks in fractions.
