Angle Subject: ESL Student Pichu, Grade 7 Dear Colleagues: I am glad to be able to join you as an ESL provider in your district. Upon reading Pichus file, reviewing his work samples, meeting with Pichu, and talking to all of you, I have come up with some ideas to help Pichu reach a higher level of English proficiency while in the Happy Smiley Middle School. Plan of Instruction: 1. I would like to clean the room out that I have been assigned and make an appealing and fun environment for learning. 2. I would like to get 2 of the computers hooked up so I can utilize them for the ELLs that will be with me on a daily basis. 3. I would also like to have weekly progress reports filled out concerning Pichus progress, which I will create and administer to each of you. This report will help me with what difficulties that Pichu is encountering when in your classes. 4. I want to get to know Pichu and find out his likes and dislikes by using writing prompts and have him either write in a journal or just talk to me. Some ideas that I have for improving Pichus language development include some content-based strategies, which will help him master the more challenging subjects like the following: Best Test- I will have Pichu create his own test on content he has learned in any of your content areas. Index Cards I will have Pichu prepare and use information for a test from what he is reading placed on index cards. I will have a word wall of vocabulary in my class for reference, review, and use in writing when he is with me. I will work on his fluency by timing as a passage is being read and having him mark where he stops after one minute, two minutes and so on. He will also keep a vocabulary notebook for each class. I will play some games with him like vocabulary bingo, hangman, and the use of the internet as rewards when he shows improvement and cooperation. My Goals for Pichu: 1. I want to reach his reading literacy to grade level by the end of the school year. (Level 4 Tier C)

2. I also want to keep him focused on his English learning and encourage him to do his best at all times. 3. Since I have his sisters, I will encourage Pichu to help Colita and Marianna in their English as well. Resources: I know that the district budget is tight so I will supply as many of the materials I need like index cards, dry erase markers, erasers, pencils, notebooks, and word wall paper. I have many discounts that I can acquire through coupons and donations that I have received from family and friends. In conclusion, thank you for your cooperation with Pichu. Please give him the help he needs in your classroom. If there is anything that you feel I can do to help you with Pichu and his academic success, feel free to contact me anytime through email. Sincerely, Amy Reese amyreese@ptd.net
