IntheVesuviusEruptingatNightpainting,thesceneisofadramaticexplosionofa volcano.Itappearsthatavolcanohaseruptedsuddenlyandthepeopleintheshipwatchin awe.Thecolorsofthepaintinggofromwarmtocool.Thewarmercolorsareorange,red andyellowwhichispredominantlythevolcanoexploding.Thecoolercolorsarenavy,off white,andgray.Althoughthemajorityofthepaintingisdark.Thefeelingyougetwhen lookingatthispaintingisthreateningbutamazingatthesametimesublimeeffect.This paintingdepictsnaturesstrengthandunexpectedness.Itshowshowpowerlesshuman reallyareastheycan'tdoanythingtoprotectthemselvesfromtheexplosionsotheyjust watchinamazement. Mt.Hood,ontheotherhandisverydifferentfromVesuviusEruptingatNight.The sceneitsetsisveryrelaxing,calmandserene.Therearenohumanoranimalsinthis paintingindicatingnaturesdominanceandtheitspristineness.Thecolorsarelighterand brighterthanthoseofVesuviusEruptingatNight.Theskyisalightcoralcolorwhich graduallychangestoacreamcolortowardsthetopofthepainting.Thecentermountainis brightwhitemakingitthefocalpoint.Thesurroundingmountainsaredarkerincolor, althoughnotsodarkthatyoucantseethem.Thebodyofwateratthebottomisalsolight becauseitreflectsthethemountainsaboveit.Thereisnochaosinthispainting.
