- originate in certain areas of tropics; found in all oceans except South Atlantic. - eye of typhoon small central area; 10-50 kms. in diameter; relatively calm or light winds, clear to partly cloudy skies, high humidity, warm temperature, fine weather. TROPICAL CYCLONE ACCORDING TO STRENGTH OF WINDS a. Depression wind speed of less than 65 kms./hr. b. Tropical Storms wind speed ranging from 65-120 kms./hr c. Philippines and Asiatic mainland) 3 STORM WARNING SIGNALS (BY PAGASA) a. Signal # 1 1 siren blast; disturbance existing; winds up to 60 kms./hr may be expected within locality the next 24hrs. b. Signal # 2 2 siren blast; disturbance approaching/affecting; winds of 60-100 kms./hr. expected within 24 hrs. c. Signal # 3 3 siren blast; disturbance is dangerous; winds in excess of 100kms./hr. expected within 12-24 hrs. THUNDERSTORMS - strong upward currents of moist air and formation of cumulonimbus clouds - rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. 3. TORNADOES - brief but extremely violent whirling storms. - have tunnel shape cloud moves at 40-65 kms./hr.; about 500 meters wide; 800kms./hr wind velocity; about 9 mins. duration. - accompanied by lightning, thunder, and heavy rain.
