6. DESIGN CRITERIA
1-6
6.1 General
The design of a steel structure shall take into
account not only the properties of the materials of
construction and the calculated stresses for the
members, but also the prevailing conditions of the
local environment and the requirements at site, the
details of construction, methods of erection and
fabrication and their effect on cost, in order to
achieve a safe and economic design.

Where joints are to be assembled with highstrength bolts, design documents shall indicate the
connection type (slip critical, tension or bearing).
Camber of trusses, beams and girders, if required,
shall be called for in the design documents. The
requirements for stiffeners and bracing shall be
shown on the design documents.

anchorage shall be provided so that the least
restoring moment, including anchorage, shall be
not less than the sum of 1.4 times the maximum
overturning moment due to dead loads and 1.6
times the maximum overturning moment due to
imposed loads.
