WHY YOU SHOULD BE A FRIEND OF THE REFUGE Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge currently includes approximately 3,100

acres within the 4,400 acre appro ed ac!uisition "oundary# Nearly $0% of the Refuge is composed of "rac&ish tidal marsh# 'his uni!ue marsh ha"itat includes a mixture of fresh and saltwater plants and wildlife and is an important resting and feeding area for migratory waterfowl, shore"irds and other wildlife# 'he area not only ser es as an important migration area, "ut also pro ides wintering ha"itat for large num"ers of waterfowl, particularly (merican )lac& duc&s, Northern *intail and Mallards# +epending on the season, the Refuge supports a num"er of shore"irds, colonial wading "irds, song"irds and raptors including Northern ,arriers and )ald -agles# 'he !uiet tidal waters also ser e as nurseries and spawning and feeding grounds for fish and shellfish which are important in the diets of many wildlife species# 'he remainder of the Refuge is woodlands and upland fields that pro ide ha"itat for a di ersity of wildlife# Wal&ing trails wind through the Refuge grasslands and forest where isitors may listen for singing frogs and "irds or o"ser e plants and animals that li e on the Refuge# .ou can "e a part of this Refuge "y "ecoming an acti e mem"er of the /riends of Supawna Meadows NWR# 'he /riends are an essential part of operations for the Refuge# 0f you ha e an interest in wildlife, en1oy wor&ing outdoors, li&e dealing with people, or simply want to contri"ute in some way, consider 1oining the /riends#

'he Refuge is also home to the /inn2s *oint Rear Range 3ighthouse# 'he lighthouse "uilt in 1$45 is listed on the National Register of ,istoric *laces#
