Running Head: Philosophy Statement of Education

Philosophy Statement My philosophy of education is like swimming lessons. Each student needs to be taught the basics after assessing strengths and weaknesses. The basics are closely guided and tools are used to aide in the instruction according to the individual members of the class. Strokes are taught in a certain order that builds on previous success. Some students are ready to jump in the deep end on the first days while others will need more guidance and assurance through mini- lessons and more one on one instruction. Finally, my philosophy of education mirrors swimming lessons because both should provide enough instruction, practice, and celebration that the students will be inspired to use what they learn and be motivated to continue the journey in the classroom and the water. The philosophy in this book best describes my personality is Axiology. In the aspects of teaching morals is part of this philosophy and I believe that this philosophy fits my personality because including morality lessons in teaching is an important part in education. Another philosophy that best describes my personality is Logic. In relations to teaching reasoning is an important part of this philosophy. I believe that this philosophy fits my personality because having reasoning in a lesson can play a major role in understanding the education that is being taught. According to my philosophical beliefs all schools should teach problem solving skills. This would allow opportunities for all students to succeed and understand how to break down a problem. The Progressivism Philosophy states that by helping students become good citizens familiar with the workings of democracy and with good problem solving skills (pg.309). The teachers role is to be an expert in the knowledge that they are teaching and is able to stay focused on the task according to the Perennialism Philosophy. The Perennialism Philosophy states that Teacher is experts of content knowledge, teacher essential knowledge and maintains task- oriented focus (pg.309). With this philosophy the students role is to be able to learn and try new things that may be hard or easy to them. This is seen in the Progressivism Philosophy. The Progressivism Philosophy states that A child learns by doing and by discovering (pg.310).

I learn best by doing thing hands on or by visually watching how things are done. I have found different concepts in my learning styles, and they are doing things that take a step by step approach so that everything is done in order without skipping a step. I found that writing things down and reading them over can help with remembering the material. The teaching material should be taught by using the evaluation approach. This is decided by the student based on the students interests and based on the teachers curriculum. This is best stated in Progressivism Philosophy which states Centered on the students interest in real problems and interdisciplinary solutions seeking (pg.310). My philosophy of education is important because it includes many different parts of different philosophies. My teaching style will be to observe my students closely throughout their learning process. Then I will use the basis of many philosophies as they fit into my own style and the learning styles of my students. A classroom should be extension of the world. Students should be given a variety of methods that will allow each student to be successful.
