Abstract
Cooling towers are heat removal devices used to transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere. Cooling towers may either use the evaporation of water to remove process heat and cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature. In this project we will design and fabricate an induced draft cooling tower whose main purpose is to reduce the temperature of water. The high temperature process water will firstly be pumped at the top of the tower using a pump. Air will pass through the vertical sides of the cooling tower and will move perpendicular to the water as a working fluid which will be flowing downward from the top of the cooling tower. The diffusers will be placed at the top of the cooling tower whose main purpose is to split the water into tiny particles so in this way the heat exchange time between water and air would be significantly increased. Water after exchanging its heat with the air will reach at the basin of the cooling tower and then this chilled water can again be used for processing. By using induced draft (cross flow) cooling tower we examine the mechanical and structural components and enhancement of cooling tower efficiency as compared to others types of cooling tower commercially it is more efficient than other types of cooling tower.
Key Words: Centrifugal Pump, Motor, Axial Flow Fan.
