INTRODUCTION
The GalACSy Poetry competition is a poetry competition run alongside the GalACSy Interschool Astronomy Competition, but is entirely separated from it. This means that nothing from the astronomy competition can affect the outcomes of the poetry competition and vice versa. This competition aims to seek out the creative talent that many people have in not only the literature society but also the scientific society. Likewise, we seek to integrate those whose interests lie in the arts such as literature into our competition. With a theme that

Details of the GalACSy Poetry Competition can be loosely related to astronomy, we hope to inspire more people to think about the wonders of space and to Dream beyond what you can see1.

THEME
For a poem to be considered as a valid submission, there must be some relevance to astronomy. If the link is unclear, we will email you asking for an explanation on the relevance to astronomy. Beyond that, the poem can be centred on any theme. We have provide some ideas to spark your imagination:

1. Beauty in the unknown

There are many things that we dont know about in the universe, and it is on these topics that astronomers, mathematicians and physicists all work on. The aim is to try and model these phenomena, explain their workings and make predictions from them. There is beauty in these unknown phenomena, we challenge you to convey your interpretation of such beauty.

2. Incomprehensible magnitude
THE UNIVERSE IS MASSIVE, along with everything inside it!! Imagine 1.3 MILLION earths fitting a star. The largest of stars can have a radius 1,700 times larger than that of the Sun. Here, our Sun appears as a mere speck when put alongside such colossal beasts. Did you know that Pluto has only gone through 1/3 of its orbit ever since its discovery 84 years ago? Neutron stars contain 500,000 times the mass of the Earth in a sphere with a diameter no larger than that of Brooklyn, United States! There are so many more examples of absolutely mindboggling scales in the field of Astronomy.

3. Ever-present danger
Have you read Death by Black hole: and other Cosmic Quandaries by Neil deGrasse Tyson? If you havent, go read it. Besides, the danger is self explanatory from the title, so we wont need a description here.

JUDGING CRITERIA
We are primarily looking for creativity. Give us something fresh and new, which will be sure to captivate the judges!
