-Sing introductory song as students enter room, lead into a seated circle -Name Game (4 minutes) -I sing Name Song (on m sl) while keeping a steady beat using body percussion with students. Invite students to pick new body percussion when I mess up their name. -Transition-movement (4 minutes) -Introduce the euphonium - I have a surprise for you! I brought my favorite instrument that I take lessons for at college. Please have a seat and I will get it. (get it) This is a euphonium. It is big instrument so it has a lower sound. It takes a lot of breath to play! Lets doing some of my breathing exercises together! -Lead breathing exercises -the Flop, arm raises, the vacuum -Toy Story freeze dance game while I play melodies. -Rhythm Practice (10 minutes) -Have students sit down in their own bubble. Wait for all to be seated then they will retrieve laminated staff paper and marker the return to seat. Dismiss by color of shirt (or article of clothing) to maintain order. -Model with Mrs. Droe how the heart beats are the same as when we sing or clap, and that the rhythms are the same even when played on an instrument. Have Mrs. Droe identify the first four beat pattern. Invite a willing student to model as well. Answer any questions. -Play several four beat patterns using quarter notes, quarter rests, and eighth notes. Have students notate the pattern they hear on their staffs. When they think they have it have them hold up their staff so I can see if they are notating the rhythm accurately. -Melody game (6 minutes) -Rover song with parachute game -Ask students not to sing so they can absorb the mi-so-la melody. After singing multiple times insist and assure that students close their eyes and raise their hand when they hear la in the first four bars of the melody. Remind that la is the highest sound. -Explain game to students: each student will grab one color stripe on the parachute with at least on stripe open. When the song reaches the looked at me I will point to and (name review for me) say the name looked at Joe. The indicated child will then roll under the parachute to an open spot. Ask if there are any questions! -After playing a few turns assess if students are ready to join in singing the song. -Reading (6 minutes) -Continue Louis Armstrong Magic Tree House book
