Strategies Planned Demonstration o I will model what to do next when conducting the experiment on chemical change. o I will show the class what the process of building the ramp and releasing the car looks like. o I will model using think-aloud strategy during the introduction to area. o I will demonstrate what writing with voice looks like and entails by modeling and using think-alouds. Hands-on experience o The students will create their own lava lamp bottle through guided discovery. o The students will build their own ramps conduct this experiment within their own groups. o The students will manipulate the cars during Musical Math. Direct instructions o I will explain how the chemical reaction in the gasoline of a car works. o I will explain the process of motion. o I will give careful and explicit instruction before each activity to ensure students know what is expected. Categorizing o The students will categorize the differences of physical and chemical changes. o The students will categorize the variables that affected the change in distance during the lesson building ramps. Multiple Intelligences fostered Body/Kinesthetic o The students will be creating their own lava lamp. o The students will be creating their own ramps, and testing with their cars. o The students will be active during Musical Math. o The students will interact with peers after designing and determining the area of their cars/garages.

Strategies Planned Group experiences and working with others o Students will work in groups of 3 while doing both guided discovery science lessons. o Students will work in partners to peer review their letters.

Chances to share ideas with other students and present ideas to the class o Students will work together to share their predictions, hypotheses and observations. o Group discussion will occur after each lesson so students can share their groups findings. Multiple Intelligences fostered Musical/Rhythmic o Students will participate in Musical Math. o Students will have the opportunity to create a catchy song to help them remember the process of finding area. (Extension activity) Interpersonal o Students are in a group or sharing with a partner for a large amount of each lesson. NI - Understanding 20% Strategies Planned Gaining information through direct instruction discussion. o I will give direct instruction about the concept we will learn at the beginning of each lesson. o Each lesson will end by retouching the content matter and discussing as a whole group what individual students learned through the process. Chances to work independently in hands-on activities. o Students will work independently during Musical Math. They will be working hands-on, yet it will be an individual effort. o Each student will have their own role within their group. Multiple Intelligences fostered Intrapersonal o Students will use their math journals to relay how they feel about the concept we covered. o Students will focus on using their own voice in the letter they construct. Verbal/Linguistic o I will use direct instruction to begin and close each lesson. o Students will have opportunities to verbally relay their understanding of the content to me. o Students will have time after each lesson to conference with peers about their understanding.

NF Self-expressive 10%
Strategies Planned Discussion and chance to ask questions during instruction o The guided discovery lessons are developed around student-developed questions. o Questions are encouraged throughout each lesson. Discovery learning

o Students will discover what will happen in the bottle after predicting, hypothesizing, and observing the results. o Students will develop questions and discover the effect of changing the height of the ramps and the weight of the cars. Creating hypotheses o Students will create hypotheses in each science lesson, then test the results, and compare their hypotheses with what actually happened. Multiple Intelligences fostered Logical/Mathematical o Students will create hypotheses and conduct experiments. o Students will focus on several activities around the concept of area. o Students will follow step-by-step directions for the guided discovery lessons. Visual/Spatial o The students will draw illustrations of their predictions and of the actual event. o The students will design the aerial view of a car. o The students will have the opportunity to create a comic strip with a scene helping them to remember the process of finding the area of rectangles. Naturalist
o The students will look at physical and chemical changes in the environment.
