Day 7: The Old Kingdom Subject: Ancient History Topic: The Old Kingdom Lesson Summary: Students will

find out from this selection that the Egyptian people believed that pharoahs were living gods. This helped the pharaohs establish their reign and authority. The students will also discover from this selection that Egyptians believed in an afterlife and that this afterlife was accessible to all people. This belief in the afterlife inspired many pharaohs to have pyramids built as their burial tomb. During the course of these lessons students will discover different aspects of Egyptian life through media such as video and web based activities. Lesson Objectives: Students will explain Egypts political system. Students will describe the earliest uses of Egyptian writing. Students will describe early Egyptian architecture. Standards: HSS 6.2 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious and social structures of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush. HSS 6.23 Understand the relationship between religion and social and political order in Mesopotamia and Egypt. HSS Discuss the main features of Egyptian Art and architecture. Trace the evolution of language and its written form. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.7 Integrate visual information (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print and digital texts. Craft and Structure CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.5 Describe how a text presents information (e.g., sequentially, comparatively, causally).

The quiz will consist of short essay questions and the vocabulary they review daily from the google slides. Guided Practice: The teacher will display the google form and give students to ask questions about the quiz. Please note the quiz is the same as the chapter check. Independent Practice: The supply helper will pass out the testing folders.
