Week 2: Focus on 2nd American Hero Abraham Lincoln

Lesson: Introduction to Abraham Lincoln Objective: At the end of this lesson students will understand Abraham Lincoln and his many accomplishments. The students will also have practice working with partners and sharing this information to the class. Content Standards Speaking and Listening: SL1: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. a. Follow agreed-upon rules for discussion. SL3: Ask and answer questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify something that is not understood. SL4: Describe familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail. 2. Facilitate a whole group discussion to see if they have any prior knowledge about Abraham Lincoln before watching the video. Make sure to reference the clip of video if something new was found. Use the white board to make a list of all the different things they knew about our American Hero and make tally marks for repeated answers. 3. Now have students work in pairs to create notes about this American Hero. Each pair will be given a blank sheet of paper to take notes. Notes can be just words listed from the white board or new facts created by each pair of students. Give a few minutes for each group to generate some notes. Each group must share out a fact from their paper to the class. 4. Collect students pair work to see if task was followed.
