Who is he?

Name: Mohammed Mohammed Morsi Isaa Al-Ayyat


Profession: He is the fifth president of The Arab
Republic of Egypt & the first after the 25th of
January Revolution.
He is the first democratically elected head of
state in Egyptian history.

Early life: He was born on 8 August 1951 in the


village of El-Adwah in the Sharqia Governorate.

His father was a farmer and his mother a housewife.

Education & early professions:

He earned a bachelor in engineering from Cairo University in 1975 with a


cumulative grade of Excellent with Honor. He then earned a master degree in
Metallurgical Engineering in 1978. He also earned a scholarship from Professor
Kruger of the University of Southern California for his academic excellence, and
a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Southern California in 1982.

He served in the Egyptian Army for the period (1975-1976) as a Infantry soldier
in the chemical warfare division

He worked as lecturer and Teacher Assistant


at

the

University.

He

worked

as

an

Professor at the University of Southern


California and Assistant Professor at the
University of California, North Ridge, in the
United States for the period ( 1982 1985).
He worked as Professor and Chairman of the

the period ( 1985 2010 ).

He was elected as a member of the Professors of Zagazig University Club. He


also worked with North American Space Agency (NASA).

Political history:

He joined the Muslim Brotherhood intellectually in 1977, and he joined the group
as Member in 1979, he became a member of the group political department
since it was established in 1992.

He was nominated for parliamentary elections in 1995, and in 2000 he


succeeded.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament as a Muslim

Brotherhood member, and he became the official spokesmen of the Muslim


Brotherhood members in Parliament.

He was a founding member of the Egyptian Committee to Resist the Zionist


Project.

He was a co-founder in the National Group for Change in 2004.

He participated in founding of The Democratic Alliance for Egypt, which gathered


40 political parties and movements in 2011.

The Muslim Brotherhood Consultation Council elected him on 30 April 2011 as


the President for the Freedom and Justice Party.

He was arrested several times during Hosni Mubarak regime when he was
participating in popular demonstrations.

He was arrested in Wadi El-Natroun prison on the Anger Friday morning, on 28


January 2011 , during the 25th January revolution. He was arrested with 34 other
Muslim Brotherhood leaders from different provinces to prevent them from
participating in the Anger Friday; people freed them when the prison security
vanished and the prisons were opened during the revolution.

His Candidacy for Presidency:

The Freedom and Justice Party decided to put forward Mohammed Morsi as an
alternative candidate for presidency on the 7 th of April 2012, just in case Khayrat
El-Shater- their first candidate - faced legal barriers for his candidacy. The
Election committee decided to exclude El-Shater and nine other candidates on
17th of April.

On Sunday, 24thof June 2012, The Egyptian Presidential Elections Commission


announced Mohammed Morsi as the winner in the second round of elections by
51.7 % of vote, while Ahmed Shafeek got 48.3%. Hours after his victory, Morsi
announced his resignation from the presidency of the Freedom and Justice
Party, and from membership in the Muslim Brotherhood.

On the 30th of June 2012, Mohammed Morsi officially took the position of President of
the Arab Republic of Egypt; as he appeared in front of the Supreme Constitutional Court
and was constitutionally sworn in.

Some of his accomplishments during his presidency:

Italy:

An agreement between the government of Egypt and Italy, to support children


rights and empowering their families in El-Fayoum province.

Brazil:

Six agreements and memoranda of understanding between Egypt and Brazil in


the areas of food, agriculture, health, human rights and social development.

China:

President Morsi signed seven agreements with China, including investment


projects for Egypt, providing Egypt with police cars and agreements in the
information technology and tourism fields, in addition to strategic planning
between both countries.

President Morsi signed an agreement ensuring provision of China a non


refundable grant to Egypt of 450 Million Chinese Yuan, where Chinese Yuan
estimated to equal $ 6.4 U.S, Egypt also intended to produce " A.E.N. 209"
warplanes licensed from China.

Germany:

President Morsi signed a memorandum of understanding with the German


Foundation " Desertec ", in order to cooperate in the energy field and link Egypt
with North Africa by using solar energy.

Egypt has focused specifically on the field of renewable energy sources planning
for this to hold 20% of all Egypts energy sources by the year 2020, and the goal
is to increase power generation to meet the growing demand for energy in the
domestic, commercial and industrial fields.

Iran:

agreement for cooperation in the


field of tourism with Iran.

The Minister of Investment signed an agreement with the Chairman of T.C.I
Sanmar Indian Group, the agreement aims to establish " El-Gameel " station port
in " Port Said ", which will receive ethylene and will lay pipelines to help the
transfer to the Indian company factory.

Turkey:

Twenty seven contract agreements were signed between Turkey and Egypt,
including promoting trade, investment, health, infrastructure, transportation and
construction, in line with economic development priorities in Egypt.

A sale of 10 Phoenix aircrafts was agreed upon, which are considered one of the
most advanced aircrafts in the world.

There are hundreds of Turkish investors in Egypt now, investing $ 1.5 billion, also
Prime Minister Erdogan explained that this is not the required investment level in
Egypt, he pointed out that the expected increase is $ 5 billion, which is also not
enough, and has to be raised to $ 10 billion over the next four years.

Grants and loans:


Qatar:
Qatar State put $ 2 billion with interest rate of 1.5% as a deposit from Qatar

National Bank for one year to be renewed, the first amount of it $ 500 millionwas transferred, and the remaining three payments were converted by the Qatari
side to $ 500 million for each.

Egypt welcomed the increase in number of skilled labor in Qatar according to the
needs of Qatar.

Several agreements were made between both countries in the field of aviation.

The investments between Egypt and


Qatar were diversified and included old
investment problems that were solved,
like: El-Deyar El-Qatarya Company in
Hurgada,

new investments including: establishing
an iron and steel factory for Qatar Steel Company in Egypt, and establishing a

Russia

Cooperation happened between Cairo and Moscow in several fields, and in


returning Russian investments to Egypt, especially the ones involved in
developing a number of major projects such as: Iron and Steel compound, ElNasr Company for Automotive Industries, providing Egypts needs of grain and
energy, in addition to trade liberalization between both countries.

Attracting the Russian companies to explore gas and precious materials in Egypt,
in addition to studying oil shipment from Egypt to Russia.

Egyptian budget during President Mohammed Morsi role as reported by the


Central Bank:

A formal report issued by the central bank of Egypt that all transactions of Egypt
with the world outside has achieved a surplus entirely in the balance of payments
by $ 237 million during the fiscal year extended form July 2012 until the end of
June 2013, which is compatible with the year of President Mohammed Morsi
Rule, compared to a deficit of about $ 11.3 billion in the previous fiscal year.

According to figures of the central bank, the current account deficit has dropped
during the last year 2011/2012 at a rate of 45% to reach $ 5.6 billion, compared
to $10.1 billion in the previous year 2010/2011, as reported by Anatolia agency.

Arrest:
The group specialized in the arbitrary detention in the
United Nations issued decision no. 39/2013 which
considered the arrest of President Mohammed Morsi and
his advisors an arbitrary action with no legal basis, and in
contradiction with the universal declaration of human,
civil and political rights.
