Long-Term Learning Goal or Outcome: ABCD Objectives or Outcomes:

Students will be able to understand the importance of acknowledging opposing claims in persuasive writing.

Using the internet and kidblog.com, students will create a blog entry stating their stance on whether or not school uniforms should be implemented in their school to be graded on a teacher created rubric of 80%.

Description of Assessment Assessment Plan:

I will asses students understanding of the objective above by using an exit ticket that answer these two questions: What is the purpose of a persuasive essay? Why do opposing claims matter? I will also asses students understanding of the objective by having them complete a persuasive essay.

Description of Activities with Technology and Materials

Activity Design: Class starter and lesson connection:
I will begin the lesson by having students work independently on a bell ringer in their journals that answers the question: What makes a good argument? As a class we will discuss different answers. This will then lead into my mini lesson.
.

Teacher and student activities: Technology Connection: Materials and Resources:

As a class, we will go to the computer lab and begin working on our blogs. As students are doing this, I will walk around the room to assist with any technical difficulties or questions they may have about navigating on kidblogs.org. I too will write a blog on the topic of school uniforms.

Reflection on Lesson Design Future Actions :

Explain how you incorporated information from the chapter and D2L modules into this lesson plan. I used kidblog.org, which I learned about through the web2.0 tool we learned about during our synchronous class. After considering this lesson plan, what will you do differently when you design the next lesson in light of your new understandings? If I had more resources, I would have the students engage in this activity using iPads in the classroom. How does your technology artifact showcase design principles? It is kid friendly and easy to navigate with clear instructions.

How does your technology artifact require student use of higher order thinking skills? It helps students identify what it means to write a non-biased paper. How does the technology in your lesson align to the content you are trying to teach in your lesson? Kidblog.org requires students to write and maintain a formal or informal style of writing.
