Vybzing front cover journey

Nasrine Djemai

When I began planning my layout for my magazine I wanted to have quite a cluttered layout because at first I thought it would be very eye catching. As I started researching into music magazines closest to my genre such as Vibe and The Source I realized they werent as cluttered as I wanted mine to be but in fact they used the rule of thirds which later on in my production process was very influenctial. At first I wanted to have a close up picture of my models face. As I began taking pictures I started becoming more creative; asking my model to be more free with her posses and movements in order to get a musical feel.

When I was taking my pictures I was thinking of taking individual models as well as having Them partnered together. My first thought when I saw the picture of these two together Made me think of a romance in which music, in particular, Afrobeats brought these to star crossed lovers together. When I began asking opinions of my target audience they Said that although the photography was good the picture it self was taking up to much Space which left no place for sell lines. People also critisied the background saying that I Didnt look as professional so I cut my models out. I also began to think about conventions and the fact that not many music magazines have two cover stars made me decide to cut Out Cleo.

I was then left with this version of the magazine. I decided to invert the colour of my font and put it on the left hand corner because I was influenced by the music magazine XXL which is that of a rap genre.

As the process of my magazine continued I began to experiment with the brightness of the picture turning it from a dim light to a more bright professional light. I also added different amount of fonts. However I encountered some critsisms about the photo with people saying it didnt seem like professional photo shoot for a music magazine. I then went back to my first attempt of my magazine and used the same mast head but changed the picture.
