r Balls, Cones, Pennies GLCEs: M.1.MS.4, M.1.NG.1, M.1.NG.2, K.2.MS.2, M.1.TG.1, M.1.TG.2, M.1.IG.1, M.1.IG.2 ACTION: Use the mature form of the instep kick while passing to a partner CONDITION: Students will pass to a partner through a goal at distances of 10 yards, 15 yards, and 20 yards CRITERION: Partners will successfully and accurately pass the ball between the goals a total of 5 times at each distance ITIP FORMAT: 1. Anticipatory Set (8 minutes) Soccer is a lifetime sport enjoyed by all ages. The game of soccer involves the mastery of many different skills. Can anyone tell me what are some skills used in soccer?...Passing, Trapping, Shooting, Defending, Spacing, etc. Today, we are going to work on passing, shooting, defending, and spacing. 2. Objectives (1 minute) Students will be able to properly demonstrate balance and coordination while performing the instep kick. The students will also be able to demonstrate an understanding of space awareness 3. Explain: Model 4-8 key steps (3 minutes) Movement Sequence: Stand with feet shoulder width apart With non-dominant foot step to the side of the ball Square Shoulders to the target Dominant leg back, drive leg forward, keep head down Drive Contact middle of ball with inside of foot Follow through with kicking foot

4. Questions to check (1 minutes) What part of the foot makes contact with the ball?...Inside Why dont we pass/shoot the ball using the toe?...No Control Where do we plant our non-kicking foot?...About 6 inches to the side of the ball 5. Mass Practice/Demo (11 minutes) Students will be assigned partners Partners will stand 10 yards away from each other with a goal (2 cones width depends on skill level of partners) placed in between them at 5 yards.

Students will attempt to pass the ball through the goal to their partner After a total of 5 successful passes through the goal, each partner will take 3 steps back This continues until they are instructed to stop

(Transition -) (3 minutes) Have students pick up cones, gather around, and stand next to their partners Explain to students the rule of the next activity

6. Independent Practice or Activity (15 minutes) Explain to the students what activity they will be doing to practice the instep kick Have students stay with the partners they had during the partner passing activity Have one partner go to one baseline and the other partner go to the opposite baseline (make sure they are standing directly across from each other on their opposite lines) Each person in the team is given a number (both teams have the same numbers) Have teams spread out along the baselines, place a soccer ball at the center of the court Call out a number and students run out to half court to get the ball and try to score A goal is scored by kicking the ball past the other teams goalies (everyone standing along the baseline). The ball has to stay below the waist and hit the back wall for it to count. 7. Closure (8 minutes) Being able to make accurate passes and understand spacing, gives your team a better chance to score goals Soccer is a team sport that. The teams that are successful are the ones that work together, have proper spacing, and accurate passing
