United States History II.D Overview: Students will examine the question: How did we get here? as we work our through this capstone to U.S. history which discusses major social, political, economic and diplomatic events since the end of WWII. Required Materials: Students are expected to come prepared for class each day with the following materials: Writing utensil 3-ring binder White lined paper Grading: Assignments are weighted as follows: Unit Tests and Quizzes: 20% Writing Assignments: 20% Projects (Long and short term): 40% Homework: 10% Binder and Class Work: 10% Classroom Expectations: The following are rules to be followed at all times during this course: Students must be in their seat and working on the warm-up when the bell rings. Students who arrive after the bell rings must have a pass. Hats, hoods, cell phones, and ear buds are prohibited. Food and gum is allowed on a trial basis. If any food or gum is found on the ground that privilege will be reneged. Water and bottled drinks with lids are allowed, but no canned drinks will be permitted. Infractions: Inappropriate behavior in the classroom will be corrected in the following progression: 1. Verbal warning to notify student of inappropriate behavior 2. Personal conference with teacher 3. Written reflection on infraction at teacher detention (Students will be given the option of two different days on which to serve teacher detentions. Missed teacher detentions will result in a referral to the House Dean.) 4. Write up and referral to House Dean Make-up Work: Students who are absent for one or two school days will have two days to make up missed work. Consecutive absences greater than 3 days will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students are responsible to request any missed work. I will not chase you down! If you missed school make arrangements to stay for a few extra minutes (after class or after school) to collect missed work. It is in your best interest to stay on top of missed work. Otherwise, it can become very overwhelming. Retakes and Test Corrections: Students will be allowed two test retakes or test corrections per trimester. Test corrections require students to correct any errors on a test by providing a one or two sentence explanation or piece of evidence to support the correct answer. Students are also encouraged to reflect and rewrite any assignments that they would like to improve the grade. Extra Help: Any students who require extra help or need to make up work are encouraged to make arrangements to stay after school.
