Basketball and Geometry

Basketball is a game played all around the world, but would it have been created without geometry. Geometry is essential in the world that we live in today, and rarely items that have been created without it have been considered a success. Basket was the fifth sport to ever be created and the man who helped create such a famous sport was James Naismith. Basketball started to rise up the charts and probably was the fastest growing sport at its time. Basketball has always been an important sport, and would have never been created without geometry. Basketball was really popular when it was first was invented and was originally played with only a soccer ball and a basketball inside of a banquet hall. Since basketball grew bigger and became more of a sport the first official professional league game was played in 1946. When the game was first created the size of the basket would differ depending on how tall the second floor of the banquet hall was. When the game of basketball officially became an official sport and starred in the BAA (Basketball Association of America) it did not have any of the unique features on the court that you find know. There was no three-point line so every shot counted as two points and the half court line had no center circle. While basketball was being transformed into a national sport it was still was not complete in many different ways. The courts were not made out of the greatest material and the dimensions of the court were not so great either. Even though basketball had became an official sport it wasnt the most visited sport but it did make a huge improvement. Later when basketball started to actually recruit and bring players out of college it seen an advancement in fans and became one of the most viewed sports. Basketball then started to create the court that players play on today little by little and started to have legends play for a league called the NBA. One of the finest players was Wilt Chamberlain, which were the first and the only to score 100 points. Basketball was an amazing experiment and has paid off through this day and will continue to grow and improve. The dimensions of the basketball court are very important to the game of basketball because the geometry helped make the game. The ball has a diameter of approximately 9 inches and an area of about 30 inches. The court has a total area of 4700 square feet and a perimeter of 288 feet. If you pay attention to the court you can see the middle circle has an area of 113.1 square feet and a circumference of 37.7 feet. And the most important circle on the basketball court is on the backboard and is called the rim, which has an area of 254.4 square feet and a circumference of 56.6 feet. The importance of the are and rim are essential because if the ball is shot at the right arc angle the circumference of the ball should go straight through the net as long as the rim is the regular circumference size. Basketball has always been a great start straight from the invention, and it would have probably never been thought of without geometry. When basketball introduced its first ever-official game the sport has skyrocketed to one of the most viewed sports till this day. The courts dimensions are important and what make the game of basketball become alive. The new generation of basketball keeps on demanding an improvement but the sport keeps the original dimensions, which keeps on bringing in more fans along with teams.
