Future Teaching Goals

Shelby McCann Goal 1: I want to work on my behavior management skills.

I will address behaviors such as distracting others, head down in class and talking to peers in a consistent manner during my instruction.

I will point out 3 positive behaviors for every 1 negative behavior. (3:1) I will use positive reinforcement to focus on behavioral issues. I will evaluate my management skills periodically while I am teaching a lesson.

I will develop a chart of my students and their behaviors brainstorm various ways to address any potential behavior issues, such as separating potential problematic students and then group the class accordingly.

Goal 2: I want to work on demonstrating content in multiple learning styles.

I will include at least two different learning styles in each lesson that appropriately meet students needs. I will record the types of learning styles for each lesson and then evaluate them. I will take the approach of developing my lesson plans as UDL's. This way my lessons can cater to many different learning styles. For an example, I can incorporate visual aids and manipulatives for learners that are more "hands-on" and visual in all of my lessons.

Goal 6: I want to work on integrating the Smartboard and other technology when it enhances student learning.

I will include at least one Smartboard or other technology in two out of three lessons when appropriate.

I will record technology included in my lessons and then evaluate them after my instruction.

I can work on integrating technology and the Smartboard into my classroom by attending a workshop or even simply by reading different teaching blogs and watching videos online that provide ways and examples to incorporate these tools into lessons and daily use.
