Unit Rationale: Compared to other topic, weather seems a pretty straightforward unit. There are not many things we can do about weather. However, we can relate weather to clothing, traveling, making phone call and asking for help. There are also many grammar points we can practiced in the unit, past, present and future. Timeframe: Four weeks (about 10 classes) Content outline: The vocabulary of weather patterns (1 class) Describe weather of a place (1 class) Make a travel plan based on weather information (2 classes) What you will do in these scenarios? Skills and Activities: Speaking and Listening: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings, making plans and exchange opinions. (Interpersonal) For example, participating in brief guided conversations related to describing weather, develop/change plans according to weather. Offering or asking for help in bad weather. Social-Linguistic appropriate request: Asking and describing weather; Making plans and present information. Offering or asking for help in bad weather. Assessment: Vocabulary quiz: matching the corresponding Chinese with the English Textbook dialogue translation Pair/group discussion of describing weather. In Class Comprehension Check, encourage the opportunity for modeling and providing feedback Worksheet Dialogues in different scenarios Weather Report Differentiation: Gifted Students: Besides the assessments mentioned above, gifted students are given the opportunity to be the peer leaders in the group activities. Also the group activities with different information presented will give the gifted students more information and knowledge which they could work on. For the weather report, gifted students are asked to do more the one places. SPED Students:

During group and pair conversation, students are able to use their notes for reference. Students could spend more time on one station when different groups are rotating in different stations. Student could get extra help from the teacher and the group leaders. The teacher could speak slowly and clearly to practice with the students with act-out so they students can more easily follow the flow of the conversation. For the weather report, the SPED students could focus on one place.
