Phenylketonuria: PKU (Phenylketonuria) is a condition in which a baby is born without being able to properly break down an amino acid known as phenylalanine (Phe). Phe is in almost all food. If the levels of Phe get to high it can cause brain damage. The best treatment for PKU is a diet of low-protein foods. Th8ere is even a baby formula for babies and young children with PKU. Babies that get on the diet soon after they are born develop normally. Many have no symptoms but, it is important for them to stay on the diet for the rest of their lives. Pedigree Description:

Noah: On the pedigree you are generation III. Person number 2 you are a carrier for the infected gene. A carrier is someone who does not have any symptoms of the condition and never will but, you do pass the infected gene onto their children. We were able to figure this out with the information that was given to us about your parents (generation II. Person number 3, generation II. Person number 4) and you brother (generation III. Person number 3).

Paige: On the pedigree you are generation III. person number 1. We know you have PKU with this information were able to figure out that your parents are both carriers since it is the only possible way you would have PKY without them having it as well.

Conclusion: We found the possible genotypes of your three children you would like to have by constructing a Punnett square. Noahs genotype would be Pp since he is a carrier. Paige, having PKU, genotype would be pp. With Noah being a carrier and Paige having PKU we were able to figure out that every child you have has a 50% chance of having PKU and 50% of being a carrier and never show any symptoms.
