Lesson: Recreational Slow Pitch Softball Outfield fielding stance, Ground Balls, Fly balls
Grade Level: 7th

AGENDA: Introduction: 2 min. Students will complete warm up laps while stretching out their arms and shoulders After warm up students will be seated and informed on the outfield fielding stance and how to properly field a ground ball and pop fly in the outfield.

FACILITY LAYOUT: Warm up:


Students will jog around cones while stretching.

Activity 1 and 2
-Partner passing grounders/pop flys -Cut off relay races

Focus: 16 min. Activity 1: Students will partner up practicing ground balls only at first increasing distance and difficulty. Then will continue on to practicing catching pop flys with one another. Activity 2: Remaining in same lines students will increase distance between one another and run a cutoff man drill competing with the other line of students. Activity 3: Students will be broken off with student leaders where they will each practice grounders, fly balls, and hitting the cutoff man in a more advanced and challenging setting.

TEACHING POINTS:

Closing: 2 min.

Review key points of lesson and answer any questions the students have about the outfield playing technique.

OBJECTIVES/TEKS: Psychomotor: The student is expected to demonstrate critical elements in specialized skills related to sports such as overhand throw for distance/force. Cognitive: The student is expected to gain the understanding of how to properly play the outfield in recreational slow pitch softball. Affective: The student is expected to work cooperatively in a group to achieve group goals in competitive as well as cooperative settings.

Respect Others Glove on the ground/ bring ball to your stomach Two hands at all times Hit your cutoff man in the chest Bounce it in rather than rainbow throw Athletic stance on the balls of your feet never flat footed Use the equipment safely Help out your fellow classmates if they are struggling to complete the activity HAVE FUN!!!!

ACCOMMODATIONS:

If low number of gloves have partners switch off every five throws Increase or decrease distances based on skill level
