ANIMATION TECHNOLOGY

2 Dimension Animation (2D)

2D Animation: Introduction

Two dimensional (2D) animation software adds movement and action to static images. These programs use either vector drawn or bitmapped images as objects. The motion of animation is perceived by the viewer from a series of frames. For the motion to appear smooth a minimum of 15 frames persecond (fps) is generally required. There are two types of 2D animation, path and cel.

2D Animation: Introduction

2D animation includes ;

2D Animation : Path Animation

Path Based animation is the simplest form of animation and the easiest to learn. It moves an object along a predetermined path on the screen. The path could be a straight line or it could include any number of curves. Often the object does not change, although it might be resized or reshaped.

2D Animation : Cel Animation

Cel animation is based on a series of frames or cels in which the object is redrawn in each consecutive cel to depict motion. Cel comes from the word celluloid (a transparent sheet material) which was first used to draw the images and place them on a stationary background.

2D Animation : Cel Animation

Example: Sequence of images ready to be animated.

2D Animation: Icon Animation

Also know as Sprite animation Involve changing icon to other icon when user press it. This type of animation can create user attention with movement such as blinking, shaking and ect.

2D Animation: Screen Animation

Also know as object transition animation. Example: flying screen from one direction or screen blured before changing to another screen/new presentation Example : MS PowerPoint Transition

11

2D Animation: Object Animation

Involve the process to change the object specification to create animation effect. Example changing specification that can create animation effect: Size Color/Tint Brightness Lighting/Alpha Advanced

3 DIMENSION (3D) ANIMATION

3D Animation

Creating 3D animation is considerably more complex than 2D animation. 3D object has depth to make the animation more realistic.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality (VR) attempts to create an environment that surrounds the user so that he or she becomes part of the experience. The term Virtual Reality has been used to describe various types of applications, some that are more experiential than others.

MORPHING

Morphing is short form from metamorphosing. Type of animation in which interpolations between specified points on two or more images are create a transitional effect. Give the illusion that the first image is changing into the last one via a series of frames as shown below. Morphing is useful not only in showing how two images blend together, but also in showing how an image might change over time.

WARPING

Warping is a related special effect that allows you to manipulate a single image. For example, you could stretch a facial feature to change a frown into a smile.
