Your childs social and emotional development (mental health) how he or she accomplishes emotions and relates to others is as important as physical health. Social and emotional development is not as noticeable as physical health, but its vital for future success in education and in life. Why it is important ? Your childs social and emotional development shows varitations in every aspect of your childs life. Children who develops good social and emotional skills can: build friendship Shows personal feelings Understand and express emotions Make decisions Share materials Ask peers to join him/her

What ECE can do? They should start the conversation from positive strengths of a child ECEs should use different strategies to communicate with families. ECEs can help the families by providing community resources not by personal suggestions ECEs should scaffold the children in their development areas They should implement different experiences to promote childrens development.

You can make difference:


What you can do: Your love and attention are as important as food and water. When do you listen and talk to your child, address (praise) his/her good behaviour (Sheikh, S, 2014) Encourage your children to make friends and involve him/her in activities. .(Promoting your childs social and emotional development, a pamphlet) Ask how your child is feeling, such as, You seem mad. Are you upset about something? If you are angry, calm down before disciplining your child. When to be concerned?
o Sticks to you or want to stay home all the time o Withdraws, hitting when gets upset o Has temper tantrums over little things o Cant calm herself/himslef or be soothed by you o Hit himself/herself, when gets upset o cant tell what has happened o get distracted easily (Promoting your childs social and emotional development, a pamphlet)
