christinealves2@gmail.com (831)588-9218 Date Dear __________: As I complete my Masters in Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services-School Counseling credential from San Diego State University, I write to you regarding my interest in the counseling position at _____________. My work with diverse populations in primary and secondary schools, creating environments for successful student growth, has provided me with experiences that make me uniquely qualified for this position. The students I have worked with demonstrate a resiliency that is inspiring. Through these experiences, I have been inspired to support and advocate for students to become lifelong learners and achievers. I have had the privilege of working in elementary, middle and high school settings prior to and throughout my graduate program, exposing myself to the various roles of a school counselor. In the elementary school, I provided personal/social counseling to individual students, as well as group counseling on emotion development and expression. After analyzing referral data, I co-delivered classroom curriculum on homework strategies and time management to all 4th grade classrooms. Referral data indicated a 93% decrease post classroom intervention. At the middle/high school level, I met with students weekly to assess semester goals, academic standing, personal/social development, and college and career readiness. I collaborated with teachers, administrators, parents and students to develop behavioral support plans for academic success. I am concluding my school counseling field placement at a 6-12th grade school by assuming all the responsibilities of a counselor: individual student planning, responsive services, core classroom curriculum, parent meetings, course selection, crisis/responsive services, data collection, and collaboration with staff members. I am currently facilitating four data driven counseling groups on academic success skills, in which I am addressing several American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national student standards such as A:A1.5 Identifying attitudes and behaviors that lead to successful learning, A:A2.2 Demonstrate how effort and persistence positively affect learning, and A:C1.1 Demonstrate the ability to balance school, studies, extracurricular activities, leisure time and family time. With enthusiasm, I look forward to the opportunity to support your students, as well as your school community. I will reach out to you in the next week to discuss my candidacy. I look forward to speaking with you. Respectfully Submitted, 3790 Riviera Drive 2A San Diego, CA 92109
