Digital Technology Philosophy: The face of education has changed from years past to present.

The digital era, as we know it, has impacted how information is communicated and, in the classroom, how students learn. There are countless ways in which technology can be used to expand the learning experience. Its use can be instrumental in allowing instructors to create an environment wherein students are excited, engaged and feel empowered. However, its use can also come with dire consequences, if misused. Therefore, it is imperative that administrators, educators, as well as students are aware of fair use and copyright laws and are also cognizant of their own ethical use of digital information. Considering the characteristics of effective technology use by Cennamo, Ross and Ertmer (2010), my students will adhere to the following fair use guidelines. Students will: 1. Be made aware of and use appropriate language in class and online 2. Respect others and will not harass, taunt, or bring harm to any other individual in class and/or online 3. Notify instructors and/or administrators of any digital technology or information misuse 4. Utilize online time efficiently to complete assigned coursework 5. Properly credit and cite sources for written and online work using appropriate formatting guidelines 6. Respect computer equipment 7. Respect copyright and licensing agreements and laws 8. Adhere to all other policies set forth by the school /institution As an instructor, I have made a commitment to uphold these guidelines and ensure the safe, legal, and ethical use of technology. I will utilize opportunities such as in-class lectures and exercises to inform and reinforce fair use guidelines. I will also serve as an example to students by properly modeling effective and appropriate use of digital information and will also monitor and provide guidance and feedback to students regarding their use of digital information.
