Tun Salleh Abbas was appointed as Solicitor General in 1963

Two months later, Tun Salleh was suspended and the Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Omar was appointed Acting Chief Justice

Tun Salleh was subsequently charged before a special tribunal in charge misconduct. On the same time, Tun Salleh had filed an action in the High Court to dispute the validity of the tribunal under the federal constitution. He also demanded that the tribunal suspended. Unfortunately, the claims are rejected.

At the age of 50, he was appointed as a Judge of the Federal Court.

He has organized a conference attended by all 20 judges of the Federal Court in Kuala Lumpur, which among others decided to send a letter to the General for documenting the judges on the speech made by the Prime Minister criticized the judiciary related

Five Supreme Court judges who sit then allowed Tun Salleh's application for a stay on the tribunal.

Tun Salleh was appointed as Chief Justice in 1984.

Tun Salleh was pointed out in a public statement with respect to the intention to defend the independence of the judiciary.

The suspension order was subsequently set aside and in August 1988, Tun Salleh was officially sacked as Chief Justice. The five Judges of the Federal Court allowed the Tribunal Suspension Application Tun Salleh was suspended.
