Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s), My name is Brittny Flora and I will be your childs Social Studies teacher this

school year. This is my fifth year at PA Cyber, as well as teaching Social Studies. Previously I was a substitute teacher in the New Brighton Area School District and a PSSA Tutor at Laurel High School. I grew up in New Castle, Pennsylvania with a family of 4. I have one older sister. I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2007 with my B.S. in Elementary Education. In 2009 I graduated from RMU with my M.S. in Business, Computers and Information Technology and in 2012 I graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville with my M.Ed. in Online Education. Today, my husband and I still live in New Castle. Over the past few years, I have become very aware of the impact teachers can have on the lives of their students. I have always been a huge supporter of frequent home-school communication. It is my hope that this note will be the basis for a great deal of dialogue and communication between us. My hope for this kind of ongoing dialogue leads me to a small request. Would you take a few minutes to respond to this email with some thoughts about your child? What shouldnt I wait to find out about him/her? What are his/her greatest strengths, favorite things to do, and/or proudest achievements? What will I notice about him/her? How does he/she learn best? What are you hopes for the school year? Feel free to include anything you would like me to know! Why am I asking you to do this? I believe that when a parent/guardian and a teacher communicate regularly about a child, the child often has a happier, more successful school year. The more I know about your child, the better I can effectively meet his/her needs in my virtual classroom. This will be an exciting year and my goal is to make this year the best it can be for each student in my virtual class. Finally, in Social Studies I implement the usage of a program known as Remind101. Remind101 is a bulk message program that I use frequently to send homework reminders, test reminders, and other important information to parents/guardians and students. Please feel free to sign up for this program. You can choose to receive text messages directly to your phone and/or emails to your personal email accounts. Please follow the attached directions should you choose to take part in this program. Please email your thoughts to me. I look forward to reading your email and meeting you soon! Sincerely, Mrs. Brittny Flora
