ASSESSMENT, PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION Ms. Lee designed, planned and taught thorough and detailed units on the human body and literature circles on Maniac Magee. Her lessons focussed on the "big ideas" of racism, equity and homelessness and she always assisted in making text connections. When preparing the science unit, Ms. Lee took great care to create thoughtful lessons that reflected both the needs of the students and the Mininstry curriculum requirements. She used a variety of resources and incorporated technology into the curriculum. Ms. Lee's units included lesson plans, assessment tools and a variety of hands-on assignments and seat work. For example while teaching the digestive system, Ms. Lee had the children make the small intestine using panty hose and the children created waste and watched the digestive system in action. Her lessons were both creative and challenging. She ensured the children learned the concepts taught by working individually with children and giving detailed, consistent feedback. Ms. Lee used success criteria and rubrics to ensure the expectations were clear and the chidren knew how to succeed and improve their work. Ms. Lee created success criteria for each job used in literature circles and created rubrics for a final shadow art assignment on Maniac Magee. She understood the importance of using many indicators to arrive at final grades and used information gathered in formative assessments to shape the lessons she delivered. I am very impressed with her units on the human body and on her novel study on Maniac Magee and will continue using her lessons in years to come. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Ms. Lee possesses strong behavour management skills. Ms. Lee used a variety of strategies to deal with inapporopriate behaviour, including rewarding positive behaviour and offering fair consequences. Ms. Lee used feedback based on her formative assessment and improved her ability to manage the class during transition times. The children have a great deal of respect for Ms. Lee and therefore she managed to avoid many behaviour problems. Also, the children were very engaged in the activities and therefore had no time to misbehave for fear of missing out on the task. Ms. Lee was comfortable at managing both small groups and the entire class.

UNDERSTANDING CURRICULUM AND THE LEARNER Ms. Lee's lessons were incredibly creative and appealed to multiple learning styles. For example she frequently used videos and the Elmo to appeal to visual learners and often used clay models and integrated physical activity (measuring heart/breath rate) to appeal to the kinesthetic learner. Ms. Lee effectively used Ministry documents, rubrics, standard texts, and literature in order to create meaningful and grade appropriate units. She made an effort to integrate many aspects of the program. For example Ms. Lee's novel study on Maniac Magee incorporated Language (Reading, Writing and Oral expectations)and Art (drama, music and visual art). Ms. Lee incorporated a variety of modifications for individual students(creating tests with word banks, multiple choice) and she always considered and applied the necessary Modifications and Accomodations and paid particular attention to the IEPs in the class. She made every effort to meet the individual student's needs. DIVERSITY/EQUITY Ms. Lee treated all children with respect and dignity regardless of race, gender, or class. She valued individual learning styles, weaknesses and strengths. Ms. Lee ensured the curriculum presented was inclusive and whenever possible she modified the program for students' individual needs. Ms. Lee taught multiple lessons integrating issues of discrimation and racism. While teaching the class about Canada's Rights and Freedom she incorporated the story of Mulala's battle for girls to receive an education (Right to Education) and discussed mobility rights and equality while looking at Residential Schools and our treatment of Aboriginals. Her lessons broadened the children's perspective and made them question and deeply think about issues of equality. Her lessons made an enormous impact on the class. PROFESSIONALISM Ms. Lee was consistently professional towards all staff members with whom she worked, the parents and the children. Ms. Lee was polite and friendly at all times. She consistently dressed appropriately for a school environment and consistently communicated with staff, parents, and students in a courteous fashion. Ms. Lee always looked for advice on how to improve her teaching and then adapted quickly to suggestions. She made modifications and quickly implemented new methods to improve her lessons. She participated in the Parent Teacher Interviews and provided invaluable feedback to the parents. Ms. Lee was always prepared and handed in detailed lesson plans and weekly goals. She was always flexible and easily collaborated with other student teachers. INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL/COMMUNITY LIFE Ms. Lee had a significant impact on the life of the school. She attended junior division meetings and helped to develop materials to help in the classrooms. Ms. Lee was an active part of Kid's Lit for the duration of the STEP days and practicum. Her creativity and skills were appreciated and remarked upon by several teachers and the junior division. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Ms. Lee was invaluable in my grade five class. She was exceptionally creative and dynamic. Many of the units and assessment she created will be used in years to come. It has been a pleasure working with Ms. Lee. She is an outstanding teacher and will be an asset to any school.
