VCE: Studio Arts: Unit 1

Overview
Outcome 1:

Topics Covered
Outcome 1 Folio development and research skills, and Contemporary sculptural practice.

Learning Activities
Outcome 1 Focus on Aesthetic Qualities, development of subject matter and the analysis of Meanings and Messages contained within work. Artist talks and workshops Outcome 2: Students will develop skills and learn to safely manipulate particular qualities and properties of materials. Artist talks and studio visits. Outcome 3Focus on writing skills and analysis of works and the development of art language and annotation process.

Assessment
Outcome 1: Completion of a sculptural work and documentation of processes supported by folio and written research reflecting an understanding of the artist process of research, sourcing inspiration and development of ideas.

Artistic inspiration and


techniques Students will develop a series of sculptural artworks supported by an art journal that documents the process of sourcing inspiration and the development of individual ideas as the basis for artworks. Outcome 2:

Materials and techniques


Students will trial a minimum of three art forms experimenting with a range of new materials and techniques. Outcome 3:

Outcome 2: Materials, Techniques and Processes Development of an Artistic Style and conceptual thinking,

Outcome 2: Evidence of the investigation of the way visual effects and aesthetic qualities can be achieved.

Interpretation of ideas and use of materials and techniques


Students will present an extended response that compares and contrasts the work of artists from different time periods and cultures have used similar and different materials, techniques, ideas and sources of inspiration to produce artworks.

Outcome 3 History of art and contemporary art practices.

Outcome 3: Students are required to show that they have researched the ways in which artists from different times and cultures have interpreted and expressed ideas Assessment focuses on evidence of an understanding of art language and terminology.
