About Your Score Report
General Information. This score report provides your test results for the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure
(MTEL) that you took on the test administration date indicated on the report. For each test you took, the report indicates
whether or not you met the qualifying score, your total test score if you did not meet the qualifying score, and your
performance in each subarea or section of the test.
Test Status. Your test status is reported as "Met the Qualifying Score" or "Did Not Meet the Qualifying Score." In addition,
each test on which you have met the qualifying score is listed in the upper right section of the report.
Your Test Score. Your total test score is based on all subareas/sections of the test and is reported on a scale with a range
of 100 to 300. A scaled score of 240 represents the minimum qualifying (passing) score. If you did not meet the qualifying
score, your numeric total test scaled score is reported. If you met the qualifying score, your total test scaled score is not
reported.
Your Subarea Performance. Your performance on each subarea or section of the test is indicated on the score report for
both the multiple-choice items and the open-response items. The performance level indicated for each multiple-choice and
open-response subarea will help you target more accurately your areas of strength and weakness. There are no passing
scores for individual subareas; passing status is based on your total test score only. Subarea performance information
should be interpreted with caution since subareas/sections contain different numbers of items. Keep in mind that you may
improve your total test score by improving your performance in any area of the test. So, any additional preparation that you
undertake may contribute to improving your total test score.
Test Results for the Communication and Literacy Skills and Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Tests. For the
Communication and Literacy Skills test and the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test, the reading and writing subtests
may be taken together or at separate test administrations. Therefore, your status on each subtest, reading and writing,
taken at this administration is provided with the score for the subtest if you did not meet the qualifying score. When you
have met the qualifying score on a subtest, that subtest will be listed in the upper right section of the report. If you have
previously attempted any portion of one of these subtests, your test status on each section as of this test date is listed at the
bottom of this report.
Test Results for the General Curriculum Test. For the General Curriculum test, the multi-subject and the mathematics
subtests may be taken together or at separate test administrations. Your status on each subtest, multi-subject and
mathematics, taken at the administration is provided. The test scores are reported on a scale with a range of 100 to 300.
For each subtest a scaled score of 240 represents the minimum qualifying score.
Cautions. The test results indicated on this report are for the purpose of educator licensure only. These results have been
reported directly to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and will automatically be added
to your licensure application file. Keep this score report for your own records. Candidates who wish to retake a test may do
so at any subsequent test administration. Test registration information is available at www.mtel.nesinc.com.
